The lenses look reddish-brown. Red colored filters are used to block some or all of blue light. Red light (like from a red sign) would pass right through. Whoever colors the comic should have made the lenses blue.

So does this mean she sees Frazz as a floating head, hands, and a “C” in between?

I would have guessed that school-bus yellow was the most common color for back-to-school sale signs

I started seeing back-to-school displays around the 4th of July. I know the kids loved that half to death.

Mallet often refers to other locations in passing. I remember in one strip, Frazz actually had a shirt that had “Cincinnati” written across it. It is quite likely that this is a Cincinnati Reds shirt in today’s strip. The “C” is written in the style of the Reds “C” logo. I believe the Chicago Bears “C” would be written on a navy blue background.

Technically, you’re correct, of course. A red filter doesn’t make red look white; it makes white (as well as anything else) look redder, and makes it more difficult to distinguish between red and white..But Judy’s explanation, while technically incorrect, explains the effect (though not the particular optical mechanics) much more effectively and concisely.
