i’ve always suspected my parents and sister hated me , but i had proof when i was 14 i talked all day about my favorite program was on tv that night at 7:30 pm. 30 minute show no one mentioned they were planing to force me to go driving with them to see an 8 o’clock fire works show, and the had to leave at 7:25 they made me go in my underwear. we were back home by 10 to nine. i went straight to bed i had a 9:30 curfew. they wouldn’t shut up about my bad attitude for weeks after. ran away from home came back after they went to bed after he 11 pm news. entered through the laundry room did my laundry spent the night in the laundry room . went to school came home . they ’hadn’t notice i was gone’ mothers are not about unconditional love.
Blame Prometheus. He stole the fire from Olympus and gave it to man. Not to dogs and cats. Man was given mastery over fire and everything associated with it; as far as the other critters were concerned it was just one more force that they had no control over.
Next year make a vet appt for your pets a week or so before the fireworks are to take place. They’ll weigh your pet and tell you what OTC meds/dosages will make them relax during all the loud festivities. It works. We used to give our dalmatians a pill in a piece of cheese and let them lounge in our music room with the dim lights and soothing music. I wish we had done that every year but it took us awhile to learn.
I hate firework season. Getting caught outside during a professional display is on par with getting caught in a thunderstorm for the sheer inexplicable panic it induces. I’m okay once I get inside.
Right now my dog is hiding in my closet trembling with fear. For the last 3 hours they have been going off and will keep on for another 4 or more hours. This has been going on for 2 weeks and will continue for another week. He HAS been sedated but it doesn’t help that much. My condolences to veterans with PTSD, dogs and cats. It’s a good thing fireworks are illegal in our town. I’m sure it would be much worse!

Military Veterans with PTSD do not…most of us do not realize just how very traumatic this time of year is for many veterans.
