The question is: Just how much are you willing for your electric bill to go up each month to avoid destroying the planet?I do know some coal miners. I don’t know one coal miner who would want his children to be coal miners. We will need less and less coal as we transition to clean energy, but that doesn’t mean we can close all of the mines this afternoon. They would have to be phased out. That would mean no new coal miners, but the actual unemployment of those currently working is not only unlikely, but pretty much beyond our capability.

Coal WILL be around for a long time, but it needs to clean up it’s act. Wind IS already cheaper than coal per Kwh to produce electricity, but yes, “alternative” will require a mix of energy sources. Solar btw IS getting cheaper, and will probably match or beat coal soon, but there again, yes, we need the mix, same for including nuclear (with new designs and no unnecessary additional mining, as the materials are already available to cover the next 100 years or so, and longer if we “control” fusion.).

ALL energy production has consequences for the environment, and the secret is to use technology to reduce our demand. As natural gas may in the long run prove even more destructive to life than coal, don’t buy the con about fracking being totally “safe”, it can be used in some areas, but is FAR from “safe”.

You know it’s gonna burn anyways and it’s giving away free energy like a sucker so let’s get some fiscally gifted folks such as yourself to get into the solar market and watch the sun put money in YOUR pocket.@SFCGaTor – neocon man is a character. The real person is probably a hard left liberal but created a caricature of conservatives, on good days he is darn funny.
