Well, this sorta settles some questions about the existence of some peoples’ parents…..and another way that Tiff and Lu are alike: that “blond code” strolling about in their family tree, when black hair seems to “flow freely” in their families…. – Wow… in this instance, Quill seems to be the only one pictured here who doesn’t have any relations to take his picture… I guess that he has to either send his pics electronically overseas, or be content with just taking his own pics for his own posterity…. – Quill stated his father lets him “fend for himself”… I wonder if that includes this grad moment?

This whole arc has been touching.

I hope Luann and her family are paying enough attention to Quill as he is far from home.

This strip suggests what readers have been guessing for some time now – that Tiffany lives with her father and her mother’s not in the picture. And Quill – sigh – I guess that’s the downside of doing your senior year abroad. I’d have thought either Luann’s family or Gunther’s mother would have taken him under their wings to make sure he didn’t have to resort to taking selfies, though.

Or the one from his previous schooling stints, the two here and the one abroad….

For some reason this doesn’t look good for Luann and Quill. Him off alone while Luanns with her family.

My husband and my son were both born “towhead blondes” that gradually grew darker to almost black. So just because the parents have dark hair now doesn’t mean they weren’t born blonde…and who’s to say that Tiff’s a natural blonde?

I’m starting to wonder if, since Quill’s parents were distant, he communicates better on Skype or through his songs than in real life. And is that bald guy taking Delta’s picture a relative of hers?

Quill doesn’t seem to be part of Luann’s family here. The handwriting on the wall?

So what’s Rosa’s famous plan C and uncle’s blessing ?

I’m guessing Bernice and Delta each have two parents in that picture. It looks like Luann, Tiff and Rosa have one each. But we know that Nancy is, in fact, very much a part of Luann’s life, so I don’t know that we can assume for sure that Rosa or Tiff only have one parent.

For that matter, the camera aimed at Rosa might actually be in the hands of a brother or uncle, since both of her folks are currently in Bogota — or was it Montevideo? No, Asuncion. Montevideo is next week.

Delta’s father, the bald guy in the picture, flew in from the East Coast for the day, but is staying at a nearby motel since Mrs. De— uh, James won’t have him in her house after that business with the piano teacher.

And Bernice’s dad is the one with the hair like hers. The short-haired chap in the tweed jacket is her Dad’s husband of three years (California, remember?).

Nancy and Mrs. Berger are off screen waiting for Quill to finish his selfie so they can get some shots of Quill alone, with Gunther, and with Luann.

It’s all good. Mostly.

poor Quill I feel so bad for him! He came back to be with Luann who has been mad that he’s working to take care of himself and spends time with her when he can and she harrasses him about it and here he is graduating w/out his family. He deserves a break!

It is nice to see some of the parents we usually only hear about, if that, even if only from the back. Bernice’s mom has hair like hers, and her dad is appropriately tweedy. Delta’s dad with his shaven head is a bit of a surprise, I guess. Tiffany’s father, formal in his black suit, seems to be present pro forma only; notice her body language. I’m not sure exactly who the guy with Rosa is, but at least she has someone (presumably family). Poor Quill alone is alone, a poignant punctuation to the Graduation Picture.

It is touching to see Brad demonstrate pride in his sister.

Reminds me some of my HS graduation long years ago. All sorts of people showed up who were completely alien to some of us. For many of those students, high school was the last formal education they’d have.

We were basically a rural high school, in the earliest stages of becoming suburbanized as the area around us changed. In another ten years, the process would be complete. I suspect the school doesn’t even have its own tractors anymore.

And tomorrow we see Gunther, Knute and Crystal watching Ox restrain Leslie from some mischief.

Frank seems to be looking somewhere else. Maybe he sees Quill taking a selfie and he’s going to go over there and take a picture of him.

Where’s his substitute family, Gunther and his mom?? I’d have thought they would be there for him.

He could just be snap chatting. Kids do it all the time.

logically, we can argue that the people taking the picture are not all parents, we can even say that the one taking pic of Tiff is a very old admirer of Tiff, not her dad, so we might as well argue that the one taking a pic of Lue and Brad might be someone who “looks like” Mr. Degroot, but usually we can assume patterns done by the one who draws the comics, so there is an over 90% chance that everyone taking the pics are meant to be seen as the parents, the question about “Delta’s dad” is not so much about if he is the dad or not of Delta, but if the colorist did not realize that, and made the skin white when he should have made it darker skin, or if Greg told the colorist to make it white

By the way, recessive genes makes it possible for a dad to be black hair(mom brunette, father blonde) and mom also black hair(her mom blonde and her dad brunette) and they have blonde kids, matter of fact, we can have Black dad (mom black, dad white) and black mom(dad black, mom white) ending up having white kids

I started out with white hair, then a little streak of yellow came in, then ash (a. k. a. “dishwater”) blonde, now a layer of ash blonde over gray over familial pattern baldness which I have to be careful to cover. Mom was brunette, Dad had “mousy” hair (according to Mom). If and when I get to 90 I’ll have to wear a Whistler’s Mother cap.

My mom’s a blue-eyed blond who died her hair brown all of her adult life. In her forties, she decided to let it grow out; and found that it was brown!

argy, I saw it as mixed, but most people saw it as white, to be more accurate, it was done “light skinned”(and as I said, don’t know if Greg told colorist to do it that way, or colorist made it that way all on his own)

Brad graduated from high school about a year after Luann went from 13 to 16 years old.

Gee, after being in his senior year multiple times, Quill has become rather “over it” about graduation!

This whole thing about “shades” (tones of flesh) is going to end up needing it’s own forum… this subject touches on a lot of areas… mostly positive, constructive and “eye opening”…… I myself have dealt with this phenomenon, since I don’t “look like” some people’s textbooks tell them I should…..

I can also cite two “modern” examples… -The Disney shows “Hannah Montanna” (yeah, I know….) and “Corey In The House” all had a song title for it’s episode (some in outright, but mostly in some kind of word twist)…. and 95% of them were the classics!!!!

Brad graduated a while back, somebody posted his graduation day a few days ago. Even if he had just earned his GED, what does that have to do with Brad being there? Earning a GED doesn’t come with a high school graduation ceremony.

For HM, there was “California Screamin”, “Judge Me Tender”, “Come Fail Away” and of course, many more…. – For CITH, there was “Don’t Rock The Boat Vote”, “Napper’s Delight”, “Land, Ball Mall Of Confusion”….

The bald guy taking Delta’s pic could be white, mixed race, her real father, her step-father, or her mother’s boyfriend, among other things.

If the guy taking Rosa’s pic is her father, shouldn’t he be in a business suit too? Any rich Mexican diplomat/politician would be wearing a dark business suit, like Tiffany’s dad.

He was seen with Rosa last week, in a new installment of "Plan C’ that appeared during this graduation arc…

And there was a time (recently) when it almost seemed every famous person suddenly started going blonde….

That was rude. I just started to type my comment and the power went out. The other computer and the TV came right back on, but not mine. Must be a safety feature of my iMac that the lesser (ahem) devices don’t have.

Anyway, as I started to say, why is Bernice’s mother’s hair just like hers before this last makeover? Before Tiff did her first makeover Bernice’s natural hair was board straight. I would have thought her mother’s would be too. So maybe with the first makeover Tiff was trying to make Bernice look more like her mother? That seems unlikely.

I didn’t particularly care for Demi Lovato’s “blonde phase”…

This is the second character with parents that seem very disengaged he reminds me of Brads friend TJ

Well, if Quill had four older sisters and was a “late surprise”, it’s more than likely his folks are pretty elderly by now. Figure he’s 18 or so, and came along sometime after his sisters. The oldest sister would pretty much have to be at least 30, and possibly 40. Unless the folks started awfully early, they’re at least in their 50s, and could well be in their 60s or 70s.

It’s safe to assume they’ve already attended high school graduations for the four girls, plus at least one already for Quill. It may be that the idea of shelling out money for two round-trip tickets to California, plus lodging for at least a couple of nights, dealing with jet lag just enough to turn around and do it all over again may not be all that appealing to them.

Even if they love their son.

as I said earlier, all hypothesis “generally” could be possible In real life, but as a comic strip, generally we have to assume there is a reason for every meticulously drawn character, so in 95% of cases(if not more) we can safely said that everyone in front of the main Pitts school characters are their parents

Gunther should grow some hair and join Rosa. Guntherr & Rosa in Peru would be a good arc to jump into occasionally. Are these kids 18? Sleeping arrangements? For Better or for Worse and Chickweed went there…

Don’t let her kid you. Rosa’s going to comfort the Peruvian team that’s not playing in the World Cup.
