Duke: December 27th! You're kidding! I missed my deadline again! Zonker: Deadline for what, Uncle Duke? Duke: My piece! My piece for the Christmas issue of "Rolling Stone!" The finest, most savage article I've ever cranked out! Zonker: Oh, dear. What was it on? Duke: My shoplifting conviction!! I've been writing the thing for months! I'd finally beaten it into shape!! Zonker: Let's see... Duke: It was my major opus!! Zonker: "Fear and Loathing at Macy's Men's Wear?"

Macy’s? All the best shoplifters go to Saks or Barney’s.

Why? These are the strips on which he built his reputation in the first place.

Without his shades, Duke looks kind of meek and harmless.

Trudeau gained in polish, and depth was something that was added to the strip, bit by bit, over the years. The early strips were exuberant, irreverent, and often went where no comic strip had gone before (not even Pogo or Li’l Abner). These are the work of a highly talented kid, and they still look good to me.
(Nope, not following up with a joke about drugs and the 60s. Write your own, if that amuses you.)

Isn’t there a store that has a discount sale on designer wedding dresses that regularly turns into a donnybrook?
jeffiekins almost 10 years ago
Why’s that? .He certainly does draw a lot better now, but there’s an argument to be made that his writing may have moved in the other direction..Is that what you mean, or do you just not like the old ones?

I really enjoy “Alpha House,” but the comics – old and new – have so much more meat to them. I sure hope GBT doesn’t give up his strip for the glamor and ‘flim’ of the filmworld.

still not used to seeing Duke without his sunglasses. Wonder if they protected him from seeing the lizards?
