A nicely timed sunday comic, seeing a certain show’s season finale was just yesterday…something tells me it’s not accidental.

    A nice message too.

When I was little, horses were associated with cowboys and were exclusively a boy toy. Now they are unicorns and are exclusively a girl toy.

My dad grudgingly allowed our artistic pursuits, but never really approved of them. They interfered with doing chores.

You know, I only just noticed I did a daddy-daughter strip on mother’s day. I should call my mother and explain myself.

Y’know, now that I think of it…Sgt. Horsey actually looks more like something out of GI Joe than the Transformers

Actually, it would be cool if unicorns would be trained for National Defense! I could see it now in which Sgt. Horsey would make a sortie (Mission) to find a bunker where the Taliban or that Terroirst Group in Nigeria that’s kidnapped those girls in their hangouts. Sarge would set his horn to “kill” and blow the bad guys away! But then again, this is a children’s cartoon.

Wanted to say, Dana, I read your (Pedantia’s) essay in part about how Celestia should be a QUEEN, but you didn’t want to get on that with “Princess” Pedantia here?

Also, so jelly of the winner! Wish I’d had the disposable income… (but how would a pie and/or grammar-themed pony worked in this comic?)

I had to make an account just to express that I am impressed by Sgt. Horsey being a revival from the first generation. I see what you did there.

Oh dear, no. Horses have been girls’ toys since before anyone alive today was born. Not so much cowboys, though.

Yeah, there was a whole family of Strausses, not including Richard Strauss (no relation) and Oscar Straus (not even spelled the same). And they were all classical in the sense of “not pop”, and not classical in the sense of “from Haydn to Beethoven”.

Here’s a performance of Ravel’s Boléro by the Vienna Philharmonic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK23BhEQVyU

Sgt. Horsey reminds me a lot of the Zhu Zhu Pet Sergeant Serge. My younger brother is a West Point graduate and a few Christmases ago he gave everyone in the family Zhu Zhu pets, and this is the one he gave me. If only I was out as a furry he would know I like cute animals better than militaristic ones. He already knew I liked the Power Puff Girls; how much clearer do I need to be?

Dad lives the Brony’s dream: To have a daughter in the right age group that not only shares his interest in MLP, but also hangs onto his every word when he wants to share his trivia knowledge.

Wonderful strip. Loved the Pedantia cameo. And as for Phoebe’s dad: in my case, I’m into a lot of things: cartoons, Star Trek, the Beatles, and baseball are just a few of them. I may be a nerd, but I’m a well-rounded nerd. And thankfully, both my son (who’s now 27) and my stepson (who’s now 22 and about to complete his journalism degree) share my interests.

And I think I’d like to see a Sgt. Horsey type of character in MLP. Shining Armor is a good one, but just isn’t enough.

(Looks into getting Clockwork Angel wing bits from Warmachine and splicing them onto a Pewter Ponies figure to make Sgt. Horsey.)

Is it just me, or are the colors on these old ones more saturated than the newer ones?

(I’m also really into saturated colorspaces… I blame the 80s)

football is better than i used to think. They should make a football (video) game with fantastical characters. Or maybe collectible/tradeable/levelupable crossover char`cters from all over the place (rpgs, fighting games, smash bros robots who are totally also cars.. seems like any 3D humanoid rigged character could easily be normalized and animated with football mocap…)

football would be way better if people like phoebe and her dad were into it
