Actually, Charlie Brown seems to have anywhere between three and five. But, no matter how many they are, they seem to be only about half an inch long and to have no joints.

Supposedly, this started with Disney, who realized that if people would accept an anthropomorphized mouse, he could save a bunch on time and ink by drawing four or fewer fingers on each hand.
