Calvin has a tendency to set things in motion, without stopping to consider what may happen down the road.Today, Calvin and I are heavily involved with Calvin’s latest pursuit. Gotta run.

One of the things that makes this so funny is that it’s happening to Calvin and not to me.

Hi Dha Dha.That’s because “Calvin and I” means the same thing as “We.” So I said, “Calvin and I are…,” which is the same as saying, “We are…..”Here are examples:Calvin is chasing the carI am chasing the carWe are chasing the carCalvin and I are chasing the car

You gotta laugh at this (when it’s not happening with your own kid).

Glad Hobbes stopped him. I’ve always liked the slogan on the Crystal tractor trailer trucks. “Behind every rolling ball comes a running child”

Hi TacopielvrThanks, and it’s good to hear from you. I’ll post some thoughts on Bill Watterson’s guest appearance in a few days. I generally only comment here at Calvin and Hobbes, though very rarely at Peanuts. By the way, you can read any poster’s ten most recent comments by clicking on their name.

My cousin did that when we were about 4 yrs old. He ran and I got his mom’s spoon upside my backside. He told me he could drive, hopped in and put it in gear. Down the driveway it went. I thought he was telling the truth. I didn’t know we would get spanked for it.

Was it this arc, or the one about his dad’s binoculars, that got him into the most trouble?

I can picture his parents calling the insurance company.

    “Hello, ACME Insurance?”

“What did he do this time?”

@legaleagle48: Bill Watterson intentionally leaves Hobbes’ physical-vs.-imaginary reality as a mystery for the reader to try to sort out, which can never fully be explained. I’ll post some information on this tomorrow.

    Protective Hobbes!

I wonder if Dad is at work and Mum says “Wait until your father gets home!” Those words always seem to haunt a child.

I don’t know why some people think this isn’t possible. It happened in my family as well. My younger brother took the car out of park. Fortunately a tree got between the car and the neighbor’s house, and no one was hurt. These kinds of incidents are probably exactly why modern cars have an interlock.

BTW, Watterson fans should check out last week’s “Pearl’s before Swine”. Watterson was a guest artist. For the story behind Watterson’s participations, see:http://stephanpastis.wordpress.com

This brings back memories of terror. It happened to me when I was 4 years old. I was in the car and shifting the gears (on the column) just like my dad did. When I found Neutral, then the car began to roll backwards down the driveway…
