A bad teacher in third grade taught me to hate math, and so I thought I hated it right up until my fifth year in college when a good teacher taught me to love it. At which point I changed my major (again, which is why it took me 7 years to graduate) and I graduated with a degree in mathematics and have spent the last 34 years working as a mathematician. But I still regret all those years when I thought I hated math, because both my high school and first college had exceptional math teachers whom I never had a chance to study with. Bad teachers can do incalculable damage to kids.

    ah, but great teachers abound.

and the generalizations that all teachers are bad HURTS the majority who dedicate their lives to children.
