I do like the idea of term limits for Congress. While I don’t every expect to see altruistic congress people who are trying to do what is best for the country, at least a random selection of new people might be able to make some progress. The present crowd is so entrenched in Washington and so polarized we are headed down the tubes.
Term limits have, fairly predictably, not worked where tried at the state level. It turns out that having representatives with less experience than the lobbyists and career technocrats is a recipe for having legislators depend MORE on lobbyists and career technocrats, and even the good legislators get thrown out. What we REALLY need is public financing of elections — legislators work for the people who pay them, and we would save hundreds of billions of dollars with a relatively small investment of taxpayer money if more legislators worked for the taxpayers than for GE, Exxon, and Koch Industries.
“What we REALLY need is public financing of elections.” Also a shortened “election campaigning timeline.” Scott in FL started his blathering March 1… for a November election!!!
No wonder folks are so disgusted with the system, they refuse to participate.

Actually what we need is a transparent government where every dime spent is posted on the internet for all to see. Every bill posted, along with the names of those who voted for and against. Lastly, lawmakers would be required to post every meeting with every lobbyist, and every gift given (each gift would also be counted as imputed income and taxes paid on it). These three things would weed out some of the corruption and stupidity.
How did Jesse “The Body” Ventura become governor of Minnesota as an independent?
I asked a former resident. He said that Minnesota does not restrict campaign contributions, but it does restrict how much a candidate can spend in total in a campaign. They can monitor radio/print/TV ad prices, etc. for audit purposes. If the candidate has more money than he/she can spend, it can be used in the next election or used to fund another candidate who has not spent his/her limit.
You’ll never be able to ensure how much money a person can take in. This evens the playing field and allows for other-party candidates to have a fighting chance.
On the other hand, you could end up being represented by Jesse “The Body” Ventura…….
The Park Service should adopt the backcountry “pack it in, pack it out” policy for the Mall, and make concessionaires, and visitors deposit their trash at point of origin, or at least away from that national “public square”. Which, voters should get smart and not be afraid to “pack it out” on the poor representation they elected to Congress, most notably at present, those causing tea stains to the nation’s validity, or intellect.
