It’s a fear. It’s not rational. You can’t expect fears to include things like eyes that grow back. In fact, that’s my deepest darkest fear, that They Might Be Giants lyrics will turn out to be true and all those eyes that grow back will do so at the back of my head. That, and that someone will move my chair.
The art is “so so” ? You are the same type who looks at jackson pollock and says “I could do that.” But you can’t. And you won’t. You’ll just sit in your chair thinking you have good taste ..,when that could not possibly be true. You are an observer. Not a doer.
Actually, to interject a bit of reality here, I have a student who has a phobia of sharp objects. She can’t look at the tips of mechanical pens. I’m told that this is a rather common problem in Japan. I will not show her this cartoon.
Not physically possible, of course. Instead, the points would go into your chin and cause puntures with graphite in the bottom, which might turn into permanently tattooed dots.
This particular strip is almost true to life for me: one day when in junior high or high school and standing in line with my hands in my pockets, I got pushed/jostled into a classmate who had a pencil in his rear pocket with the pointed end up. No, I did not lose an eye but I pulled out my hand with a pencil tip firmly embedded in my wrist. To this day I still have a dark spot from the graphite.
So THAT’S why the idea of putting pencils point-side up in my front pocket has always made me nervous. I could never put my finger on what bothered me about it. =)

A little dark. The one nice thing about it being a comic strip is that you can wake up and realize it was just a dream.

If that had been a black string bikini, he wouldn’t have poked his eye out.

I don’t see the humor in losing an eye under any circumstances. Scarey.
