    Mexican food seems to take more than its share of these jokes. What about hot BBQ, any strongly flavored food, or lots of raw veggies. And hello asparagus!

    Stella S: Cinco de Mayo. I was taught in elementary school English that noun and adjective must agree in number and gender (even though the latter is generally moot in English). It applies more so in languages in which everything has gender..

    Differences in countries are instructive at times. In the US, if you walk into a hole in a parking lot, you’ll sue. In Mexico, you’ll get laughed at for not watching where you’re going.

    “a nation with so little in common with the United States.” Uh, the Spanish also helped the 13 Colonies win their fight. All of California and most of the Southwest, from Texas west was once part of Mexico. You’re off base. Enjoy the day, beginning with a breakfast Burrito… :-)

    My daughter was watching Restaurant Impossible. During the break, to keep viewers interested, they asked what is the most popular foreign food in America; Chinese, Mexican, Italian?

    Mexican is my favorite, so that is what I said. Turned out to be Chinese. I told my daughter, "Well in my America, it’s Mexican.
