Lincoln would never have posted anything on the Net — he was too honest.

That was real, wasn’t it? I mean, they don’t make movies about real people that aren’t factual. Da Vinci’s Demons for example; complete historic accuracy.

You can find the script of the play online.

From what I’ve heard, Lincoln was actually enjoying it.

First time I’ve ever heard anyone in pop culture acknowledge that the Emancipation Proclamation did not free slaves in the north. Pastis ees smart.

Excellent commentary upon both the state of education today and the displacement of decent commentary with lines from TV shows. Who could write the Gettysburg Address today? Who would listen?

In 1860, at the same time Lincoln was delivering his famous Cooper Union speech, actress Laura Keane was starring in “Our American Cousin” a few blocks west on Broadway!

Um, do you all remember how some people were saying BC doesn’t do the religious strips anymore? Over on the BC page in an ad for a book full of only those!

Just wondering who’s going to tweet in the next strip? Would it be better if rat build a time travelling machine, go back in time and “fix” the history?

Actually Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address was a tweet by 19th century standards. Compare it to Edward Everett’s two hour “Oration” that preceded it!

Thank god tweeting is something that’s only been around for a few short years. One of the worst ideas in history. Their furthering the reduced attention span of too many people. Seen too many people complain about having to read anything that’s over the length of a tweet as a waste of time. Their not, unlike tweeting.

Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address is about the shortest presidential speech I know about. Not more than 5 minutes of reading.

I’ve often wondered what the Emancipation Proclamation actually accomplished. It was supposed to free the slaves in the Confederate states, which had declared independence from northern rule. They didn’t consider themselves subject to any laws Lincoln passed.

partyalldatyme: It was notable (outside the accompanying event) as the first “mirror” to the US audience by a foreign (British) playwright. As for Lincoln’s reply to the last question, “The first part was pert good, but I don’t recall the rest.”

I wonder how many people asked for their money back because they didn’t get to see the entire play?
