When faced with a confrontation, there are only two major choices: peace and war. Now there are subcategories for peace, such as sanctions, trade embargoes, restricting necessary supplies, etc.
Or you could send in the troops, which is the opposite of keeping the peace. (Except for those who feel that peace is so important that they are willing to go to war to preserve it.)
Whether Hillary Clinton is stupid in your opinion, or whether John Kerry has truly earned his medals is totally off the subject. You seem to be letting your oft-stated hatred for everything and anything remotely linked to the Obama administration steer you away from this simple distinction.

I see your point, and appreciate it. I’d like to present a different point of view. As I stated above: you have two major choices…war or peace. Many “leftists” and a number of centrists believe that you have to pick your battles. We also note that our military is worn out from our “adventures” in the middle east. Our treasury will not support a war with Russia, and our people are weary of war with no end point and wary of getting into the same trick bag again, especially with a country as intransigent and unwilling to compromise as Russia. (Remember, both our countries are so stubborn that it took each more than 10 years to realize what a quicksand trap Afghanistan is). So, whether we feel Mr. Obama is incompetent or not, in this particular instance, we believe a peaceful solution is better.
However, “rightists” continually scream for him to do something else. It follows logically that the next question should be: “What ‘something else’ are you suggesting?”
