Actually the special effects where pretty good, making cardboard and household trinkets look like something real. Angle of the camera and fuzzy images when needed worked fairly well.

I like the way Paramount took the classic series and updated the special effects of the starships, planets and space. A really big improvement. I do, however, respect the work of the original special effects artists, who had to make do with a pretty limited budget; what they accomplished within those limits was actually quite amazing.

I admire William Shatner. You’ve gotta love a pop culture icon who refuses to take himself seriously.

In some episodes of the original Star Trek you can see that Shatner is wearing a girdle.

That’s a very hairy subject.

and in the TNG they somehow made the actors look much plumper toward the end, that pot belly on Riker must have taken hours of CGI cluster time

I really don’t see the draw with “updating” special effects…..It ALWAYS destroys some of the energy that was there in the first place…. :’-(Next some schmo will want to “update” Sinbad….. >:-(
