Hmmm. I think the way the law treats prostitutes should be illegal: Bad girl! Shakes finger But we’re not going to train you to different means of gainful employment because it’s too expensive and you are probably too stupid to catch on.

    Does that count?

I did not know this forum puts things surrounded by asterisks in bold. I wonder what it does for things surround by bold tags.

Just for the sake of disclosure, this happened. They were seating jurors for a case where a couple had been prostituting their fourteen year old daughter. The defense dismissed me for exactly what happened in the first two panels. Would have been bad strategy to leave me on the jury, right? Bonus points for those who recall the legal term for this part of the jury selection.

Now I’m really going to get backlash from this as I do with any other postings I post when comes to mentioning religion!

What about jury nullification? “A sanctioned doctrine of trial proceedings wherein members of a jury disregard either the evidence presented or the instructions of the judge in order to reach a verdict based upon their own consciences. It espouses the concept that jurors should be the judges of both law and fact.”

Maybe this has become something well-known because I’ve encountered the exact opposite response during voir dire (how do I claim my bonus points, Greg?), usually in regard to drug laws. Our criminal courts are very strongly against allowing people obvious “excuses” to get out of jury duty, so if you say you believe drugs should be legal, the lawyer will ask something like “but can you put aside your personal feelings and administer the law as it is written?”

They also don’t eject people for answers they don’t like right then and there either — a bunch of people go through the voir dire questions, the lawyers consult & do paper things, a couple folks are picked and sent tot he jury room, the rest back down to the pool. I think defense and prosecution each get a certain number of toss-outs without having to give any reason — the “drugs should be legal people” probably are viewed as desirable by defense but undesirable by prosecution.

And our system, despite all the “creaks and groans” is infinitely better than others. That’s why all those folks are busting their backsides to come here.

@Josh When are people going to realize that “the world’s oldest profession” is not only illegal,…."But it is undefinable and as a simple case of exchange of goods or services for pleasure, most marriages, most bar hookups and many dates are all the same name. People always have traded one for the other.Mine you the child factor is vile."

I never even get a chance to be in the jury pool. As soon as they see my name they throw me out. I’m a cops wife. My daughter was pulled and went, she’s married so they didn’t recognize the name. They asked her if she could be un-biased, she told them she didn’t think so. They asked why and she told them she was a personal friend of the Detective that was in charge of the case. “Thank you for your time but you are excused.”
