Methinks this is also Alix’s punishment for “teaching” the dog how to wash dishes yesterday.

Holly, don’t give your mom a straight line like that. It’s just too tempting to pass up.

@templo SUD – I don’t think that helping with chores is a punishment for girls their age! Val can’t do it all alone.

For some reason, those girls are under the impression that their life is a ‘free ride’. I think ‘washing mouths out with soap’ should be brought back as a punishment for offenses other than ‘colorful’ language—for making ’smarta** remarks such as Holly made to a parent.

Getting my grandkids to clean up is like pushing a string. I could make them do it, but then I’d wind up on Page 2B of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel – or maybe Page 1B. (And we’re not even in the Journal’s covered area.)

I was expected to do chores when I was their age!

The mom should just tell the girls to do the chores. Not just make a comment about them like she is having a conversation. Be direct.

Mom: There’s a piece of trash on the floor.Me: Pick it up. You’re two inches from it.Someone picked up the trash, and it wasn’t Mom.

First, my middle kid once told me that I only had children to do all my work!

Second, when this place got messy, hubby would start – “Whose boots are those in the hall? Are those your mom’s school books? Whose hat is that?” In other words, don’t expect somebody to follow you around and pick up the pieces.

I’m with their mom, the girls need to do their own chores.
