Um, those that bothered to show up. Given the ethnic mix there, and the known boycott of the “election” by many opposition groups along with the declared 95% in favor outcome the whole thing was a sham election for show.
If anybody has a really good idea on how to deter Putin without sending in troops and risking a nuclear war, please speak now. Otherwise all the rest is BS designed to push a political agenda.
The people of Crimea have had an election. There is no evidence that they made attempts to disenfranchise anyone who didn’t seem likely to vote their way, or to make it as difficult as possible to exercise their right to vote, which is more than many of the states in the US can say. So, we don’t like their choice, tough. It’s their choice. If it turns out to be a mistake, it’s their mistake and their problem. Of course, they will probably ask us to help them solve it, but there’s no reason why we have to comply with that request. They are not children, we are not their parents, and we have problems of our own.
Unfortunately Neocon, your argument is nothing but a logical fallacy. It creates a false delimma and makes an appeal to pity..It isn’t one or the other but a matter of degree. That is, should we abandon space research and exploration and give more to the poor (or hungry children) than we already do? How much should one or the other get?So, while I can conceed that some amount of welfare etc., is acceptable I also think that the requirements for recipents should be very stiff and closely supervised.

Doesn’t help that a certain president nixed NASA’s budget to pay for more welfare.

Space X already has a contract to ferry people to the Space Station. Obama is using American Contractors to save money.

How many Afghans and Iraqis are fundamentalist Christians who only speak English, and want American troops running their elections and countries?
