I suppose we really should do something about those dangerous ignition switches, before Congress suddenly gets interested... ... and springs into action! Ha. Ha. What's good for GM is good for the U.S.A. I say! -- Or good enough, anyway.
Hmmm, the “fault” was basically if you had one of those overloaded or heavy keychains, it could turn the ignition off, in all of what, 13 accidents? Granted, a faulty design, but not as significant as many other design “faults”, like including all the electronic displays on a screen in the dashboard, and ENCOURAGING distracted driving, just stupid!
A correction, it was 31 total accidents, and 13 fatalities. Hmm about the same number of accidents over a number of years, as the number of gun deaths in the U.S., EVERY DAY!!
Back in the early ’90s, when consumer use of Windows computers really took off, I had to explain things to my brother-in-law. I told him that while they were relatively user-friendly, they were not idiot-proof. He sighed, and said he wished for the sake of people like him they were idiot-friendly. .With crash-avoidance systems, and GPS, and all the other various conveniences, cars are becoming more and more idiot friendly. Eventually they will probably be semi-sentient and practically drive themselves. Even then idiots will find ways to get hurt.
“Until Executives are held criminally liable for business decisions they know will result in public injury or deaths but will save the company money we will continue to have these episodes.”.Not a bad idea. Not bad really.
Habenero Hound: Not too many suicides from knives; sepuku is painful and wrist cutting takes too long..SABRSteve: This isn’t Germany, where the union elects two members of the board of directors and so has full access to financial and policy decisions, one reason why strikes are comparatively rare there – they work it out ahead of time. That is what state interference in the recent VW plant expansion was really about, VW would have utilized the German practice regarding unions as partners instead of as disposable wage slaves.
