For those of you who like to read, may I suggest two books?AFTERSHOCK: The Next Economy & America’s Future by Robert Reich.

DEBTOR’S PRISON: The Politics of Austerity Versus Possibility by Robert Kuttner.

You may agree or not agree, but these two books are very interesting to read, especially the second one.

Yes, Genome, LBJ raided social security for his Great Society disasterous social welfare state programs. Now the cash is gone just like Detroit pensions have…

The Great Society Welfare Programs were not disastrous (as Republicans keep finding when they propose ending them). It was the Reagan idea of cutting taxes and soaring debt that got us into this pickle. The GOP could get more spending cuts tomorrow if it wanted to, but it has to make a deal, and they would never do anything that responsible.

the leaf represents more than the “defense” cuts, and they aren’t even touching the true waste.

I guess this is illustrating the DOD cuts? ‘Cause that’s what it looks like – cutting their budget by 1 percent. Boy, that’s gotta hurt ! Everyone else, 10-20 ….

the President’s proposed budget uses OMB estimated numbers for the “future years” to 2024; different from the CBO estimated numbers, and Obama calls the difference “A CUT”….duh.-One financial advisor who read all 212 pages analyzed it as “212 pages of deception”……so, SOP.

Although I am not against social programs to help out peole temporarily during hard times, I have to agree that many do milk the system. Over decades, I have read in the papers and on TV news in the Boston area about families who have lived, one generation after another on welfare and other public assistance. Yet it seems our state legislators & governor do nothing to change things. It undermines support for those who truly need some temporary support.
