Two generals said that as long as Congress is unwilling to raise taxes and demand that unwanted weapons continue to be built in order to support their districts’ job levels, these cuts are mandatory, and sadly, the cuts to programs that help military families are the most expendable.Mr. Obama is the commander in chief, but Congress holds the purse strings and they don’t work in the interest of the United States. they only represent the Republican and Democrat Parties. Constituents are just an annoyance to which they give lip service only. All other services go to political donors.Respectfully,C.

God forbid we cut the military budget down to the world’s most expensive only two times over.

Cut social welfare spending by an equal amount and I’ll support the military cuts. As it is all Obama wants to do is shift the money from defense to derelicts and deadbeats.

Genome, I don’t care what the overall amount of spending on either is in the position I am taking. I stated “Cut social welfare spending by an equal amount…”.That means if defense goes down by a billion dollars take a billion out of social welfare programs which would include far more than just welfare itself. Maybe start by ending extended unemployment benefits… Reduce food stamp payments. Equal reduction.

“……do some basic homework, our’s isn’t even the most expensive now, and pre WW2 levels will have us outgunned my most of the planet…..”.I presume you think modern warfare will be fought in the trenches by boots on the ground as in WW2. You’ve got to get out more.

Statistics can be skewed in a number of directions. Yes I found both these reports. The official US report does not include the administrative cost of the programs which is considerable, the other one does. Its also not clear about what a family receives as it only seems to be talking about individuals. The one very good report stated that its about $168 a day for the average family and that is $21 an hour. Now after you subtract taxes from the average American salary you are getting about $21 an hour.

So sorry TM but there is some merit to the argument that there is no incentive to work. Personally I am old and my wife and I live on a combined wage of $12.12 an hour. We accept no assistance from anyone nor have I ever in the past. My heathcare costs are approx. 20% of my income just for the insurance and supplements. But I am being told I am being given something and its a entitlement. After paying a small fortune into Social Security, Medicare and in taxes for my working life (14 year of age to 66) it just flat out sickens me to watch people who have contributed nothing to society nor ever will scream what we owe them so they can live. All I know for sure is the people with the food stamp cards in the line at the store in front of me buy much higher priced food products than I can afford.

Anyone who believes the system is sustainable and isn’t broke needs to share with me whatever flavor Kool-Aid they are drinking.

Indeed, and with the income of roughly $6,700 per year I’m sure people would happily live in a deteriorated slum.

Now I understand that accountants clearly have no claim on what a radio host says in money matters. but it would most certainly appear that the USA could cut even half its budget, be greater than Asia and Africa combined with the only risk being if all of Europe and Russia decided to gang up at once

The generals are willing to cut enlisted benefits, and limit salaries, but not their own. The PENTAGON has tried their best to shaft disabled vets, while VA tries to help them. No, there’s no surprise that the generals will protect their contractors profits, while troops lose. BTW, reducing the actual size of the Army isn’t a bad idea, and we could bring a lot of those foreign based troops, like in Germany, Korea and elsewhere that the residents should be “defending” themselves.

I think we should at lease let those some of whom being cut get back out of the theater of combat before we start kicking them in the nuts and out the door. Yes, I whole heatedly agree that the more than poorly managed def budget needs to be cut, but not on the backs of those very people who are willing to give their lives to preserve our rights to all that affords us the freedoms that we enjoy today. Yes, cut the budget but not those who are willing to take a bullet for you… … Joe sezz!

The dollars and cents cuts are predicated on already prescribed by sequestration. This cartoon has been done about Sec. Def. Hagle’s announcement that he wants to cut members out of the Army to cut those dollars and cents….
