I always assumed that the profanity filter exists because it presents so many wonderful comic opportunities. If Shaenon and Jeff were just concerned with clean language, it would have been easier to keep Nick’s language clean from the get go or to invent their own in universe swearwords like “goink”. This way we get all kinds of neat non sequitors like:Nick: “What are you looking at RABBIT PUNCHERS?”Unity: “It was just the one time!”

He really shouldn’t care. It’s still cathartic, and it makes him more tolerable.
