Gramma Evie: Dear Alix...today I swam in the ocean for the first time...at a pool called Dalebrook. TIK TIK TIK TIK Gramma Evie: There are cement walls that create an enclosure in the surf, giving everyone a safe place to swim. Gramma Evie: So no, I don't think I'll run into any Great White Sharks. Alix: DANG!

If you want swimming with sharks, Evie (and Alix), go with whale sharks.

Funny how the sound that Evie makes when typing is the exact word in Dutch. Typing is even called “tikken”! :-)

It might depend a little on the time of year. I’ve swam in the Gulf of Mexico at Fort Myers, Florida, in June. It was warm like bathwater. I’ve never found the Atlantic shore to be warm.

I’m from the Northwest too, and I’ve never actually seen warm ocean water. My Californian wife tells me the currents change somewhere south of San Francisco and the ocean is warm beyond there.

I think the nit pickers are out in force today. “Today I swam in the ocean for the first time” could be short for “Today I swam in the ocean for the first time since I got here” or “Today I swam in the Indian Ocean for the first time”
