So, Bern and Delta are going to the prom…Bern gets to wear her Gown…Delta? Well, that’s not easy to say… ;)

If Bern and Delta go “Doe” to the prom, will they be able to stand wearing the antlers all night?… Or will they forget and leave them in the trunK?… – Churchill, Stalln and Wilson… famous historical figures? Or the last names of three people Luann dated, before Quill?..– Point one finger, and three fingers point back at the pointer- Uh, wait… hold on…. Okay… now, they’re pointing at someone else, too…

I’m not sure if Luann got the point of the conversation…but then, Bern Did say it sarcastically… ;)

I may not have seen it then, but at my current age, I can see the wisdom of what Bernice is saying. As for Luann, she’ll turn out to be one of those people who thinks that EVERYONE has to have a significant other and is miserable if they don’t.

Luann can’t help herself…she’s just a normal, healthy teenager who just happens to be boy-crazy…isn’t that right, Luann? ;)

If “Plan C” goes into effect, Gunther may have two girls to dance with. Ya know, Gunther & Berneice is not such a stretch…

Well I have said it before but here goes again…I do not understand why Bern and Luann are friends. Bern is the studious one and ALWAYS sending a snide dig Luanns way and Luann is just the average student who has a healthy interest in boys. If one of my friends spoke to me like that we would Not be friends. Bern never lets up. Why is that? If she likes Luann why isn’t she kinder to her. I do not recall Luann being so nasty to her with constant put downs.

Is Greg trying to angle at a catfight? He does know what happens to unattached beauties free to dance with all the handsome boys with their dates?

I never heard of that one. My mom had told me about love being like a butterfly, that the more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but that if you turn your attention to other things, it will settle softly on your shoulders. But I like that other saying better.

Luann and Bernice’s friendship bothers me. I NEVER see them be supportive of each other, besides mutually hating Tiffany. Bernice is always snarky and condescending to Luann. Luann ignores Bernice and today, on the rare occasion where she is listening to her, is basically telling her she thinks she’s pathetic.-I know some people say that they have friendships like that: giving each other a hard time and telling them “like it is”. But surely those friendships have times where you ENJOY each other’s company? Surely there are aspects of your friends that you actually LIKE? I haven’t seen that with these two.

Is the strip wrapping up the characters’ high school years by confessing that Tiffany is not so superficial as she had been accused of being, and Luann is less than the ideal woman whom so many people have come to love?

I wonder if this is going where I think it might be going.

Bern spent a lot of her time with Zane. She almost got him killed in a fire, and she proposed to him. She did keep up her grades though.

Dream on. Quill shut Tiffany down at drama camp over the summer, remember? Even Tiffany knows when to stop beating a dead horse!

- statement sums up Luann well-If that is how you feel, why on earth do you spend time reading a comic about a viewpoint character for whom you have so little sympathy or interest?!

Well, yeah grades are important- getting into a good college- getting a good job— all important. But, the part of learning that involves knowing how to get and keep a good guy, good friends etc is also something that is best learned when you are too young to know how dangerous it is. It’s really difficult to have the courage to put yourself out there as much as you absolutely have to when you have had your heart broken a few times, and I know only one or two lucky people who haven’t. LuAnn may be sort of naive, but that can be a big advantage.

The only problem with this arc is that no one goes to Prom any more. They’re even getting cancelled in lots of places.

-Thanks for this, since I hadn’t been reading the strip then, I had no background on this. Interesting show of Luann trying to help Bernice get together with someone Bernice seems to care about. AND also showing the Luann doesn’t just obsess about boys she likes. -By the way, it also shows Bernice not being single-minded about just concentrating on grades and such. -These are all points that those who post here and dislike Luann seem to either have forgotten or easily ignore while chastising Luann for not being Bernice.-I am still hoping for future arcs that show Luann finding friends at the Community College who don’t look down on her for not being an intellectual.

Bernice must have low self-esteem to put up with Luann and Delta as her best friends. Both of them push her around and insult her but she is too weak to stand up to either one. That is why she is always passive-aggressive with Luann. She insults Luann but in a very non-assertive way. It took an awful lot for her to finally stand up to Delta about going to the prom. Bernice will not be a good counselor until she learns to stand up for herself.

The conventional rules of social grace say that at a dance, a male who has no escort (“stag”) must ask for dances from as many ladies as possible. I’m not sure if the same rule applies to females.

– So not only will Bernice “stand up” to someone when necessary, but this also shows that they have a “give and take” relationship, where their different personalities go “toe to toe”, but for the purpose of resolving… in the end, they are like chemical elements, where in just the right combinations and conditions, their unique properties are harnessed for a truly special result, which leads to the fact that we all continue reading the strip…..

Yeah… Including the time at Borderline books… among other arcs….

Bern wanted to go to the prom in order to dress up and dance. And she doesn’t need a guy for that.*Delta doesn’t want to go to the prom but is doing so out of debt to Bern. And she doesn’t need a guy for that.*Men are needed for a lot of things, but not for the prom.

Figured you’d say that.. you can look at any story in this past year or two….. it is the same result…..

Delta will go to the dance just so that she can spend the entire evening telling Bernice all the important things that they should be doing instead, and how she should be ashamed of herself that she bailed out on Delta’s original plans to go to the Prom instead.

(Cue sigh effect…) You are missing the point… during the resolution of that, Luann tried to enter into her audio diary that she was trying to do the right thing, but couldn’t help but still try to “win him over”… that’s why she held the dinner, and )that’s why Bernice “played it” the way she did, knowing Luann’s ways…..

Ding, ding, ding! Exactly!…

-Bernice does not hate Luann, and Luann has no reason to be tired of Bernice-I’m not a ‘Bernice hater’. I’m someone who never enjoys sarcasm whether directed at me or others, and doesn’t see it as the type of action that one friend directs to another. Especially teens, who use snarkiness to put each other down (do they still say that?)-I honestly think that a lot of what Bernice says shows that she no longer considers Luann a friend, and I honestly think that a lot of what Bernice says goes past Luann because she doesn’t use sarcasm often and doesn’t think of it as a way of talking to a friend.-And at the risk of repeating myself, I’m hoping to see Luann meet friends at Community College who don’t look down on her.

Yeah, so much great stuff from the years…. – That’s one thing about GC I love that the other sites don’t all have… the archives feature..

And I am still waiting (by myself, I guess) to find out Rosa’s ‘Plan C’. Maybe she will announce it at the prom while dancing with one of the guys who doesn’t bring a date with him?

Given that time is short, and because I keep seeing people who seem very upset by the conduct of one character or another, I keep wondering why people would continue to read something that displeases them. You aren’t the first person I’ve asked, and I guess I’ll keep asking till someone explains why they would read something that keeps making them unhappy.

Anyone know if this is a lead up to the end of the strip, another high school rerun, or a move to college?

Delta would consider a frilly ball like Bernice’s to be “not Presidential”. We should expect her to wear a Hillary Clinton-esque pants suit or, more formally, a lady’s tuxedo.

It appears to me that some commentators come here drunk or on drugs! Incomprehensible. But Bernice’s remark, on the other hand, applies as well to Luann as it does to Luann’s hasty assumption.

@Jay – really enjoyed the flashbacks, thanks! @Levi – I get your point about interesting arcs with Bernice, they are, they are, but hating on Luann is not necessary to get this point across. It is not a competition for one or the other.

The only “tizzy” Ill be going through is having to wait for the NFL draft… They plan on keeping it late in the future… and it’s already a long wait until preseason, as it is… – And I’m not too thrilled about how they’ve been tinkering with other stuff, either…
