I stay at a place in Florida that used to have those, but removed them about 20 years ago. More importantly, I think it is not pluggers that stay at hotels like that, rather it is OLD HOTELS that don’t modernize.
Oh, WOW! One of my earliest childhood memories. I always wondered what it was for and then didn’t believe them when they told me. The only thing I can think of is that there are a lot of bloodied re-habbers out there.

Driving the old Rte 11 through VA, TN and beyond back in the ’50’s. Them ol’ $3 a nite motels were just like that. (sigh)

I like the dead flies in the light fixture. Add another touch of ambiance to the room.

Some bottled drinks have caps that must be removed, and one of those helps a lot; of course, they are not returned for a deposit refund anymore.

I remember walking into a variety store a few years ago and asking for a “church key.” The whippersnappers had NO idea what I meant.

Starting to see those again. With all the craft breweries and granite vanity tops, it only takes a six pack to do a $500 worth of damage.
