It’s all in the perspective. Looking back from my (old) years, I can remember when the high school kids looked big.

AGH, Mila, you’re killing me! March isn’t far enough away from me : /- And exactly rshive. I especially remember how young those freshies looked as a senior too, yet they were only a few years younger. Now, 3-4 years doesn’t seem like much of a difference :P.

Denying someone a job who is willing and able due to age is age discrimination. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to prove. Because of the economy, when companies downsized, the first to lay off were older people. If they qualified for early retirement from the company, they got their pensions. If they didn’t, they were out looking for jobs but quite a few weren’t hired. Some when they reached the age to qualify for early SS, they went that route because they had no choice. Also, people looking for work were sometimes told they were overqualified for the position they were considering. How can anyone be overqualified? It’s probably the most idiotic statement to make. If they are willing to consider the position, they should be given the chance.

I started my SS at 65 (which was then the normal time) and my employer got to pay only the necessary supplement for Medicare, but I still got laid off (not for my age, but because the boss wanted another with a P.E. (to sign his drawings so he could take more Vacay). I manage OK with that money and my various IRAs.

And age DIFFERENCE? My new man is only 70 (six years younger) but it doesn’t matter at all.
