This seems to be the first strip here on the archives (also accessible on the little calendar to the right of the date up above).

Oh, no! Poor LDL! I wish he would find his home; but if he ever does find home again, they’ll have to make room for his buddy the turtle.

LDL was “lost” from the very beginning of the strip, if that’s what you’re wondering. We have never seen his owner, just that he had one at some point.

He must be getting closer to home. The picture looks so new. Time for him to find his family, Steve! Rename the strip LD and Tortie and left them have adventures adjusting to life indoors! How about it?!

I’m glad somebody is still looking for him! He can’t be that far from home if he runs into the pole with his poster on it. I’ve read about dogs and cats that find their way home sometimes many, many years! However, I do realize this is a comic!! I love your artwork Steve and all the little buddies you make for LD

I just thought of A Little Princess which used a similar so-close-yet-so-far scenario. And I think of other stories where the main character has wound up (typically through some form of magic) a long way from home, and spends most of the story trying to find his way back. But when it’s time to go home at last, it’s invariably bittersweet, because it means taking leave not only of the place or places he has come to know so well, but also the friends he has made along the way, often never to see them again. That’s why I have mixed feelings about LDL finding home once more, for fear that he would lose everything and everyone that made his journey worthwhile.
