How do people have more then one kid? “Put them to bed and hope you have energy left by that point.”

Since ‘brother’ and ‘sister’ are still common words, most couples seem to somehow have more then one.

OK…. So this looks like “family planning” week, then. Do they adopt Shannon or not? Do they have any of their own, either with or without Shannon?

My hope is that they do, eventually, adopt Shannon, but not at first. I hope they get to enjoy life as a new married couple, just for a little while. Do a little traveling, maybe… Just enjoy life together and get to know each other better. Having a kid in the house changes lots of things and lots of priorities.. And it’s non stop until they’re off to college… or beyond. If they want their own, then add that kid at the proper time, as well.

I just get the eerie feeling that Shannon will be foisted upon them, well before they’re ready for her.

It’s funny how they were at first a “cover band”, then “socio-political”, then “pop”, then “pop ballads”, then…. the dangerous territory of “80s pop ballads”…and worst of all, “the pop sound, even without Cetera writing them”… – Don’t get me wrong, though…. I love Chicago…. but I mostly love their days when people kept confusing them for “the band that did ‘Spinning Wheel’ (BS&T)”….

Is this where Johah disappears, leaving Shannon with Toni permanently?

You know that Brad and Toni will eventually be raising her. Better adopt her to keep Jonah from coming back to re-claim her later.

I’m sure that when Toni and Brad eventually marry, that “Grandma” DeGroot and “Aunt” Luann will be babysitting during the honeymoon. Also, when Brad and Toni are working dual shifts.

There are many wonderful things about raising kids and many awful things too. Most people have more than one child so there is sex after kids, but notice that most kids are 2 or more years apart. So the sex may be sparse, but it still exists.

One more thing, I also think it changed drastically when Terry Kath died. Out of the first 5, I especially enjoy CTA, with “South California Purples” and “Poem 58”. Kath’s guitar work there is what I enjoy most with those songs. – “Beginnings”, “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” is fine, too. I’m on the fence about their version of “I’m A Man”. – I don’t necessarily think it’s bad, it’s just that I like the Spencer Davis Group arrangement of it a lot more.

Ways to have a second child—— Sex in the shower, middle of night, lock the bedroom door, hire a sitter, kid at grandma’s. Babies and small children sleep a LOT, you just have to plan around their sleep schedule to do whatever you want, like sex, sleep, or chores.

There should be no reason for “accidents” in the bedroom, or where ever, for producing children. With 7 billion people and growing we need to stop with the children and instead adopt.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. One of the three basic instinctive “animal” drives (not even human, but “animal”)… is to pass on one’s DNA, or die trying to. “The Devil” with “societal obligations…”

Continuing on, with the “Blood Sweat & Tears” references:

    ♫♪ And when i die… and when I’m gone… They’ll be one child born… in a world… to carry on…. to carry on….♪♫

-With 7 billion people and growing we need to stop with the children and instead adopt-Children born in the poorest nations are also born into nations that are, at best, suspicious of efforts at adoption from overseas. Sometimes, efforts at international adoption meet outright hostility from the population as well as their government.-For example, there is one South American country where would-be adoptive parents were attacked (and one woman was murdered), because of the belief that their children were not going to be adopted, but would instead be used as organ donors. -And some of the poorer countries oppose international adoption because they see the children as eventual assets. There are no jobs in many of those countries, so the children have to migrate elsewhere (legally or otherwise) for jobs, and send money back to their parents at home. The economy of those countries benefits from that. This happens in Europe as well as the US.-And finally, there are countries that feel that western efforts to adopt their children are really efforts to eliminate a particular religion by raising adopted children in the religion of the new parents.-So it’s not simply a matter of deciding you want to adopt from a country that is rich in children and poor in everything else. And for those who long to have children, suggesting that they wait on long lists for adoptable kids in this country is almost like telling them they will never have children. Fewer and fewer kids are put up for adoption in the US now; partly because foster care programs reunite families (even when it isn’t in the interest of the children), and partly because a lot of unmarried folks who once gave up children are now keeping them. (And no, it’s not because of the availability of termination; in absolute numbers, that procedure is declining.)

I especially liked Kath’s vocals on “Make Me Smile” and “Colour My World”, arguably the two most memorable parts of the “Buchannon” suite. – I’m not the biggest on live albums, but their set as featured on the “Live at Carnegie Hall” album is actually pretty decent.

Cetera was fine in small doses, but under his “leadership” the music went so pablum as to be nauseating. And, like I said, his voice in ballads tended to sound whiny to my ears.

I have to concur. Sadly, it became the signature sound for Chicago, at least in the time I was listening to it.

Still, there are some things that weren’t all that bad. Perhaps if Lamm or Kath (if he were still around) had been “lead” on them…

    “I’ve Been Searching…”

“Wishing you were here…” (Actually I don’t think PC was lead on this).

The only thing of PC’s solo career that can actually stand to listen to is “Glory of Love,” but only because I really liked the movie (Karate Kid II).

I’ll be honest, there’s a hard argument for both sides, as far as Genesis was concerned. The “Gabriel Front” was the ‘creative’ years, and many would say they weren’t a ‘sell out’ during this time. When Phil took over (reluctantly, according to his accounting after P.G.‘s departure), they were the most commercially successful, but also had the most ’schmaltzy’ songs… sort of a “boon/bane”… – I’ll add a ‘tick’ over to the Collins side, as they still had pretty decent output with “Lamb…” and “Wind and Wuthering”. the eponymous album (“Genesis”) and “Abacab” had some hidden jokes and riddles (such as “Dodo/Lurker”,). I think it got too commercial once “Invisible Touch” came out. – To me, some bands are better in their relative obscurity, as they are in their creative best, but personally speaking, due to Genesis’ output from 1978-86, more people were able to appreciate their earlier catalogue, and it helps when they pick the right songs for their box sets and compilations. Plus, both Gabriel and Genesis benefitted from parting ways.

I agree about Cetera. My wife likes all the “love songs”, so for her, she’s more apt to enjoy all the ballads they kept churning out after Greatest Hits onward. That lets me know that they went for their “bread and butter” at that time. I prefer CTA up to VII.

What about species obligations? In the end humans en mass act no better than deer.

Proving only what seems self-evident anyway… that humans are animals just like all those other species. We all have the same “primordial instincts.” Maybe our ability to exploit natural resources and use “industrialized” tools is a little better, but other than that….

Fleetwood Mac is another one with a “conundrum”. When they were led by Peter Green, they were a blues band, and saw only moderate success, and had a different sound. Once turnover happened, and Lindsey Buckingham came along (and said that he and Nicks had to be an "all or nothing’ package when Fleetwood considered them), they got A.M. friendly for sure, with their most successful period being ‘76-83, but was also could seem to be their most difficult, too, with all of the excesses and crazy tabloid-like goings on between the members. – I always wondered how they could function when they each were fighting amongst themselves, cheating and the like, and yet still performing and choosing each other’s songs.

-deal with the adoption of children in this country first.-I already pointed out that this has become increasingly impossible, which is why potential adoptive families are turning overseas. We have two people in my generation who were adopted into our family, and two others in my parents generation. Since we have genetic dispositions for some dangerous illnesses, many in my family wanted to adopt rather than pass those genes on. But in our next generation, our family members found that they waited on lists for such a long time that they became ‘too old’ in the minds of those managing adoptions. There are fewer children being put up for adoption in the US.

“Kid bursts into the room”?? Lock the bedroom door! No kids allowed in the parents’ bedroom ever!!

    To wit:

    1) Kid continues banging on the door until you’re forced to stop and answer;

    2) Kid tells the teacher the next morning that “Mommy/Daddy kept me locked out when I had a tummy/head/ear ache…” at which point teacher calls DCFS…

    3) Both.

I seriously doubt Toni would let that happen if it came down to it. Shannon is “family” after all. And, with just a little TLC (the kind that “Bwad” seems to have for her), she could turn out to be wonderful. Maybe all she needs is a little attention and direction.
