Young, healthy people sure would be stupid to jump in there. They’ll never get sick or older, so they need never contribute to a system they will certainly expect to use sooner or later. I like the message. I hope it sticks.

If Roberts didn’t suddenly find his inner-Liberal, he would’ve joined the correct side that found forcing people to buy a product is unconstitutional! So all you young people just graduating high school or college and can’t find a real job, get ready to have hundreds taken out of your measly paycheck each month by the Democrats!

As one looks at today’s news and sees the traffic accident on that interstate in Indiana that killed 4 and injured many, one wonders how many of those injured are glad to know they have insurance no matter how old they are, and how many are wishing they did.One also wonders how many of the hospitals to which injured were taken will be able to cover the cost of treatment because patients have insurance, and how many people they will have to treat without knowing where they’ll get the funds to cover procedures.Respectfully,C.

One wonders why they didn’t simply promote inexpensive, high deductible individual insurance plans for young people instead of these fascist monstrosities. Oh, wait, then people would have less need for government to pretend to pay for it. Good thing my plan is grandfathered.

It would also help if government would quit subsidizing grain, persecuting small farms, giving toxic additives FDA certification, and promoting unhealthy nutrition standards as gospel. We’d have far less chronic illness and less need for expensive insurance. Oh wait…

L Benson is such an ignorant fool. “Risk Pool” has no risk for young people; it’s the rest of us at risk if everyone doesn’t pay their fair share. IT’S! THE SAME FOR EVERY TYPE OF INSURANCE

Lisa, have you got insurance? Do you want your own children to have insurance? Thought so. Quit trying to convince others to ruin their lives, health, and finances in ways that you wouldn’t do yourself, simply for selfish, political spite. We know you hate Obama. But let the kids buy insurance.

As it stands right now, there are several very serious and major problems with the sign up rates by group:.First, half of the 18 to 34 group (those 18 to 26) really don’t need to sign up at all. They can stay on their parent’s plan..Next, the sign up rate of 18 to 34 year olds is currently about 25% of what is required to sustain the program to cover all those who are sickly an have pre-existing conditions..Then, the sign up rate for Medicade is running about triple what was predicted and funded for. That means that government will have to massively raise taxes or severely cut benefits and costs to cover these people..

I don’t expect many people will sign up until the penalties for not signing up kick in. Then, when they have to decide to either pay for nothing or pay a bit more and be insured, they will make the sensible choice. Hope so, because car wrecks and other accidents, and many diseases don’t wait for the social security checks to arrive.

Moody’s just lowered their credit rating outlook on the health insurance industry to “Negative” meaning that they expect insurers to be taking losses because of Obamacare. That in turn is going to up the cost of credit and borrowing for that industry. So the “Death spiral” begins…

“So tell us, what sort of person are you?Someone who takes responsibility for your own life or a taker?”

You ask the wrong question. I know I will have health coverage regardless of whether I buy a policy or pay a penalty. The real question is: “Do I have elementary math skills?” If my premium is more expensive than my penalty, then I should pay the penalty. The decision is no different than paying $3.55/gal for gas at station A, or $3.50/gal for gas at the station B across the street. Government has intruded itself into the insurance game, so my premium doesn’t reflect the costs inherent to my cohort. Instead, it is inflated to subsidize the costs of people who have made poor life choices (smoking, drinking, drugs, etc.). My decision to pay the penalty has nothing to do with my ethics or sense of personal responsibility.

You are confusing insurance with medical care. If you go to an emergency room you must be treated; and will receive the same care whether you have insurance, can pay some other way or cannot pay. If medicare/medicaid reimbursed hospitals/doctors adequately they wouldn’t have to cost shift and insurance costs could be lower.
