This is what Veblen called the pecuniary canons of taste. It’s not worth something unless you spend money on it.

Ungrateful… I love handwritten love notes from my husband.

Yeah, Ralph, it doesn’t count unless you spent $5 for a piece of cardboard. Never mind the beautiful poem I’m sure he wrote inside.

I always make my own (but not in crayon). Easier for me to write from my own heart, and not what someone else thought up. Besides, I can put the $5 towards some quality chocolates.

What’s wrong with a homemade card? That shows a lot more thought than just going to the store and picking something off the rack.

I, however, did not make my fiancee’s card. It did have Homer Simpson on it though.

I know this doesn’t directly relate to today’s gag, but …

Is Honeybunch actually NOT wearing her apron today? [Gasp!]

Like 2OLD, I got an ecard from my new beau. He is really terrific; I don’t need even that (just his kisses). And Kleaners- nothing wrong with using Homer (or any of the other cartoon characters. I love that my man likes all kinds of humor – just like me!

Generally always cooking something special. We’ll have our oysters as soon as he’s done acting in this play (next week).

In our paper today the question was asked, “why is Valentines Day aimed at women and kids?” Do something for your guy, take HIM out to dinner, have his car detailed! I got mine a huge heart shaped box of chocolates, he loved it! He loves candy. He gave me a Starbucks card, I love coffee!I think flowers are a waste of money. Just love one another all year not just Valentines day! I also make my own greeting cards, they are a lot of work, and I have to decide if someone is “card worthy” before I make one!!

There are so many software packages and web sites for making cards that waiting to the last minute is really no excuse. Buy some card stock from Staples, and print your own. I did this for years (before I ran though all the good designs on the American Greetings create-n-print web site) and everyone in the family loved them.
