Always remember, the home team has the advantage; they will still be there after you go home.

Night-Gaunt49 – yep, just like we fled Vietnam. Whether to go to war or not is not the same question as what we do once we’re there. Once we’re in, we WIN, and make sure the enemy knows and stays out. We’ve had the military posted for decades in S. Korea, Japan, Germany (though by now, for multiple reasons). But in these cases, Vietname and Iraq, the lib’s succeeded in getting us out, to our shame.

It’s good to see GT back in form: zero strikes & three hits in one shot!

And it will continue to be our modus operandi as long as we let corporate greed run the country, especially the oil industry. All four of our last wars: Vietnam, Iraq(2) and Afghanistan, were instigated in order to protect US oil interests. Korea was the last war to have any basis in legitimate US security.

Iraq is the saddest. More Iraqi lives were lost (are still are), due to Bush and Cheney’s lies than Hussein could ever take; they bankrupted the moral reputation and standing of the country, nearly destroyed the economy and caused the death and maiming of tens of thousands of US personnel. They deserve to rot in Hell.

The subtlety and breadth of insult in such a few lines is absolutely breath-taking. Well said, Mr. Trudeau.

@sclark55Winning wasn’t the objective unless making lots of money counts as winning. And it’s not the libs who want the money. I refer you to MajGen Smedley Butler, USMC and Gen David M. Shoup, USMC, both recipients of the MOH. Optional: check out the lyrics to Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War.”

I just learned Doonesbury starting in March is about to take another long indefinitely daily hiatus until at least Fall 2014 as Garry Trudeau works on Season 2 of Alpha House.

Great strip and great posts today. The only difference is that BD’s “parking lot” had no cars in it,and Christie’s was full of them. And there were Americans in those cars. Other than that, I can easily see Christie saying stuff like that.

Iran is the next target on the agenda, bombing starts sometime in the next three years. When we finish them off, the North Koreans need to be taken out too.

Yeah, yeah, why does it look like the past is being dredged up again. I know it was bad – what can you do to change it? Nothing. It’s gone, done, over. Start on something that is positive and will help the country and Maybe, we will make it through. Hate mongering will not.

What a bigot GT can be. How is Christie got anything to do with this? Because GT doesn’t like anyone who doesn’t toe the left wing line to death.

True, Saddam was not innocent in any way, but he wouldn’t have had the power to put his evil into play if the US hadn’t helped him become dictator of Iraq. This is almost the same as how we helped Manuel Noriega rise to power in Nicaragua, and then ousted him when he became an embarrassment.

Nixon ran the Viet Nam war longer than LBJ, he didn’t “end it” Ford finally pulled the plug. The U.S. backed Saddam, and provided him the gas to use on the Kurds. After the first invasion, and before the second, those weapons were either gone or expired (there is a shelf life on some), and no they weren’t shipped to Syria.

The real situation, whether Christie or others on the conservative side is that many countries have been turned into parking lots to advance our interests, and those of our corporations, our real “leaders”…

The reason there are no US troops in Iraq:In 2008 President George W Bush signed an agreement with the Iraqi government to remove all US troops from Iraq by December 31, 2011.-http://in.mobile.reuters.com/article/idINIndia-36739420081127?irpc=932-Obama attempted to leave a residual force behind but the Iraqi’s insisted on 3 conditions that were unacceptable to American commanders.1- US servicemen were subject to Iraqi courts for off-duty behavior outside of American bases.2- The Iraqi military would have control over movements and actions by US forces.3- The US could not use bases in Iraq to attack another country.Obama refused to accept these conditions and announced on October 15, 2011 that all US troops will be out of Iraq by December 31, 2011. Actually, all US troops were out of Iraq by December 16, 2011.-http://world.time.com/2011/10/21/iraq-not-obama-called-time-on-the-u-s-troop-presence/-

The standard Wingnut response: “Obama should have negotiated better terms.” Fools. To what purpose? To keep more Americans getting killed, and none of them from their families? bush broke it so badly no-one could put it back together except another dictator.
