    They reported theft of 40 million and another report of 70 million. Target bought identity theft insurance for all of them.Target is offering to provide one year of “credit report monitoring & identity protection” from Experian, one of the three big credit reporting agencies. The thing that bother me, is that Target has yet to say exactly how they were hacked.We really should be allowed to get free credit reports from all three agencies on a much more frequent basis than the annual one provided by law, imo.

    But how did they infect the terminals? It’s possible, but doubtful someone used a card with the malware on it. More likely they breached the system that feeds updates the terminals’ software.Target has yet to confess how the malware got in what is supposed to be an extremely secure system.

    I’m wondering if they inserted the code by pure hacking or managed to subvert/sucker some employee into providing access.
