    Perhaps it is because moral fiber requires the letting go of so much that we hold dear for no particular reason, having already extracted anything of value long ago. We hang on to things, and defend our hanging on as rational, holding hard and fast to what is essential poisonous to us when it would be better to vent our discontent and discard them.
