Good morning, Vagabonds. Has anyone ever wondered about the extras in movies? Especially the ones dining in restsaurants in the background? I know that a movie can’t just bring the cameras into a restaurant – the other diners will get so excited and will start waving or pointing to the camera. Do they hire extras who will be paid to just have normal conversations with each other as the main characters are eating? The same with store scenes…
Couldn’t log on yesterday morning as I had trouble with my browser. My grandson fixed it last night and put me back in business. The nor’easter we had yesterday was a dud in my area. We only got about 1/2 inch snow as it went back and forth between snow and rain. Other parts of the state got a lot more for snow. Right now it is just windy. Now they tell us that we are supposed to have a big one starting on Sat. evening and into Sun. morning. Haven’t said anything about how much we will get. Can’t do anything about it except wait for spring.Jan, I like those temps. you are having.
@Arye – They hire the extras. My nephew was once an aspiring actor. He never landed a big enough part to make a living out of it, but he sometimes did get the extra billings. He appeared in the background several times on “Dallas.” The restaurant scenes were filmed in the studio, and the extras didn’t have to talk. They just moved their mouths, and made facial expressions and gestures.
I also once lived in a town where there was an old antique train nearby, that took tourists on a short trip down the tracks. It had an old timey station and everything, with a museum. Occasionally a Hollywood group would come out to film a scene for a western. They would advertise in the newspaper that they needed extras for such-and-such a date. I never participated, but several of my friends did.
Howdy Vagabonds..Well, It seems to be snowing. I wonder where that came from? ;-)It’s a fine snow, can’t see across the valley. The weather guy say an inch or better an hour. (think I’ll hibernate till spring).When I was young we went to a place called Steam Town in Bellowsfalls VT and Wallpole NH (The train yard was in Wallpole). We went the yard first and toured the trains and engines. We later returned to the VT side and took the excursion train up to Chester VT, one engine and three cars going to Chester and two engines and five cars coming back..What made me think of this was David spoke of a rail road station being use in movies, one the engines on our train was used in a movie..Ok folks have fun..ttfn
When I was a Girl Scout, we used to go camping at “Corriganville Movie Ranch”. It was used as a western movie set for many years, and when there wasn’t filming, it was a tourist destination and group campground. We never got to be extras, but the opportunity was there to be “townsfolk” if you were at the ranch while they were filming. Tourists got a thrill and the producers didn’t have to pay the extras. (Google it – I did and it brought back a lot of great memories.)
Supposed to get up to 79 today. Peaked at 74 yesterday, so we’ll see.
