While to Republicans, Bush isn’t to blame for the things he started, it’s all Obama’s fault. It’s even Obama’s fault, somehow, that the economy crashed a year before he was elected. And the obstruction in BOTH houses of Congress by the Repubs KEEPS preventing any real recovery, but that’s Obama’s fault too. GOP needs to change it’s symbol from an elephant to an ostrich for how they keep their heads in the sand.

Agreed. The programs were bad, and they started before Mr. Bush took office. But Mr. Obama has had five years to stop these programs, and he has done nothing except expand them. To a degree, it’s understandable: if we have another terror attack, no matter how intrusive the government has become, many will accuse the government of not being intrusive enough to stop it.

It is up to the people to recognize that a free society carries risks. No matter how diligent we are, it only takes one malcontent with a backpack to create mayhem. Despite all of NSA’s intrusions, we still had the Boston Marathon bombing. Does this mean we need to further empower NSA? Where does it stop?

It’s an older story, folks. Don’t forget that Bush 41 for a time was head of the CIA (and screwed things up!). What do folks think North, Poindexter, and friends were up to while pulling off Iran/Contra, and setting Noriega up in the drug business (with Meese’s help as well)? Pulling wool over the people’s eyes is also part of “intelligence gathering”, just has has long been ILLEGAL domestic spying that the “Patriot Act” just legitimized.

It’s everyone’s fault for not speaking out against the Police State you are living in ! The excuse it is for your ‘safety’ is perfect but security is not perfect against those who wish to harm the ordinary citizen. ( including your government). One day electronic surveillance will dictate when you can leave your own homes and whether you can withdraw money from your own bank accounts. then what will you all say " How did this happen ??" Its called the Totalitarian tiptoe, one small step at a time they are imprisoning you in your own country. Time to waken up ! Steve Benson has already.

That’s an interesting defense of the Bush administration. He was too stupid to realize what Cheney was up to. A lot like the St. Ronald’s defense regarding Iran/contra. I see a pattern here. It starts with an “R” and ends with President. I disagree with a lot that Obama has done, but Congress specifically passed legislation to prevent the closing Gitmo. Most of what Obama is criticized for (like ACA) is flawed because it’s a “compromise” with Republicans.
