    Lynn’s Notes:

Here’s a story for you: The province of Manitoba had just decreed that people trained as dental nurses would be licensed to do check-ups, cleanings, small fillings, and extractions on children. Rod’s dental practice had expanded to include three First Nations villages, and he needed someone to offset the load. I was on my way to Winnipeg with Aaron (who had a doctor’s appointment) when an interesting application came in. Debbie had very good references and was willing to move up to Lynn Lake. Rod asked me to interview her in Winnipeg, so Debbie and I arranged to meet in the hospital cafeteria while Aaron had his appointment. I sat at a table with a coffee and waited for Debbie to arrive.

Right on time, a stunningly beautiful girl with a long blonde hair, deep blue eyes, and a voluptuous figure came into the room, wearing a black low-cut cocktail dress. She put out her hand and introduced herself. I got her a coffee, and the interview began. Debbie was wonderful. I immediately liked her and knew she would work well with our team. I asked her if she could move up north as soon as possible. “You mean I’ve got the job?” she asked in amazement. “Absolutely,” I said, “you are exactly the kind of person we’re looking for.” I watched Debbie as she adjusted herself in her seat. She was blushing. “There’s just one thing I want to know,” I continued, “why on earth did you wear a cocktail dress to this interview?” “Well,” she smiled, “when I told my friends I was being interviewed by the dentist’s wife, they told me I’d never be hired. So I decided to blow off the interview by dressing up!” I laughed. We both did. Debbie was not only beautiful, she had a wicked sense of humour. She worked for us for four years and was one of the best staff members we ever had.

“Wonderful” lessons you’re teaching your son, John. Sounds like he’s smarter than you…

My fabulous dentist is surrounded all day by at least 5 very pretty young women that assist him with the office and the patients. I would not want to be his wife.

JanCinLV: That is why, when I find a typo I missed before hitting “submit”, I not only cut, paste, delete, and correct, but I come back after seeing some other site to make sure the first one actually deleted. Of course, that still doesn’t catch an imperceptible double-click, which, since I have familial tremor, is always a risk.

Is it just the colorist, or does Lynn always draw Mike with an exceptional receding hairline for a child?

I have to say, the artwork on John is not far off from Rod at all! She did a great job! They are not ugly but I wouldn’t call them exceptionally beautiful.

Love Lynn’s story! I’m sure my dentists have had attractive hygienists, and one works with his wife (both dentists, which is excellent), but I’ve never noticed. I have however always noticed that the dentists themselves are more attractive than they should be. Must find a very old or very young one next.

I’m sure John knows Ellie is nearby and is ruffling her feathers. She does not take John seriously and laughs it off..

Never heard of commuter airplanes and taxis?Just because she did not fly or drive herself, does not mean he was there.

Even if he did fly her there, does not mean he stayed, too. There’s always reasons why she was there alone with her son, and that he was not with her.

Just because she does not fill in all the tiny little details, does not make her story fall apart. It just means that she was not expecting people to dice up her story, with knowledge that means zip in the story’s case.

Even if Elly had not overheard John — he just doesn’t learn, does he? — I would still think that what he says in panel three shows questionable judgment at the very least. Certainly I would not have thought it appropriate to speak that way in front of Mike, or any other child. That said, it still gave me an uneasy chuckle.

As it turns out, Lynn’s “insecurity” probably was a fairly accurate early warning system…
