I think you will find that Kalashnikov designed the AK-47 in the years following World War II. If I remember correctly, it was adopted in 1947, thus the designation. Kalashnikov was a tanker during the war, and his weapon was influenced by examination of German assault rifles that were used in the later parts of the war.

On a happier note, Merry Christmas to you and yours!

You’re right about that Monty! The PPsH was the weapon of the Red Army in WW 2. The AK-47 was designed after that war ended and was in part based on the German Sturmgewer 43/44.

Guns don’t overthrow regimes, people do. Or corporations. It’s all starting to get a bit fuzzy.

I liked the AK lots better than the M-16…it was more dependable, and besides, Charlie could sometimesbe fooled into thinking YOU were him (safer that way)

Why is the love guns obsessive? Sorry, but this makes no sense, and neither does the strip. You say the cartoon is exaggerated. I think perhaps the word you’re really looking for is extremist.

The exaggeration is that the NRA, as a organization, would cry over the man’s death. Typical Liberal lie based on hate and ignorance.

Andropov Kalashnikov was a man and had a family I’m for them his death was an event worthy of morning. It was not him nor the rifle which he invented that caused any harm, Violence is entirely caused by the people who are doing the violent act.

The AUTHENTIC AK, as the man designed, is a very good weapon, reliability was the key intent. The cheap “knockoffs” aren’t nearly as reliable.

Still ticked off one I “captured” was taken away and a friggin’ officer sent it home as HIS “trophy”. Hmm, speaking of why I had little respect for some of our “authority figures” in the mlitary?

Just a note though, unlike the Nobel to apologize for the terror brought to the world by the man, there is no “Kalishnikoff prize”. Amazing the cost of inventions for war, in many respects.

I think it would make more sense if he were creating newer, better, more deadly weapons when he passed away, therefore ending a stream of creatively deadly objects. Did he create anything of note after the AK-47?

Many more would be alive if the US stayed out of the politics of other nations.

Nope, just not a hater. It’s Christmas, enjoy the season. Please, don’t bite your tongue, I’m not sure there’s an antidote available.
