I wonder if this judge would rule the same way with a Republican president.

Once again, we were mad when W missed the clues for 9/11. We got all those great Patriot Act laws for him . He built that great Orwellian system we wanted him to build. Now we seem to have second thoughts about it.

I find it interesting that the country removed Nixon from office for what amounted to a misdemeanor and yet the current inquisition government continues on as if they weren’t committing major felonies.

Both sides tend to focus on blaming the other side for the NSA’s massive expansions of power. The Patriot Act may have originated during George W Bush’s administration, but very, very few congressmen from either side voted against it. Democrats need to deal with fact that most of their congressman voted for it.The Patriot Act may have been renewed during Obama’s administration, but yet again, very, very few congressmen voted against it. Republicans need to deal with the fact most of their congressman voted to extend it.

Having suffered through Watergate and the mess that was the government at the time and watching with great relief as Nixon departed via helicopter my memory is that he never amended his most famous quote: “I am not a crook.” That doesn’t equate to admitting doing wrong, but maybe he made an admission I missed.

While I do NOT like Obama continuing to use what the Patriot Act, and previous policies to that, like under REAGAN, and even back to the conversion of the OSS to CIA, it’s again idiotic to put ALL the blame on Obama. “W” and Cheney for instance, were much worse at manipulating the data collected, like getting us to invade Iraq on totally false “data” they shoved down the throats of Congress with threats of charging treason to defy the great god Cheney/Bush.

“Great that you finally recognize both sides voted, Jase.”What do you mean finally? I may fault the George W Bush Administration for leading the charge to war based on falsified “evidence,” but I have always faulted the Democrats for not having the stones to vote against it. I left the Democratic party during the Clinton Administration. I support a few select Democratic candidates based on their stand on issues and voting record, but I don’t support the party in general. The lessor of two evils is still evil.

Yep, “blue tarp” Aschroft, a LOT bigger scandal than a blue dress, but he skated, and he DID represent the administration’s mandate.

RV: as with Ford, it was GHW who “forgave” all the Iran/Contra folks, like Poindexter, North, et al, and respective the spy agency component, it’s worth noting the outcomes of his rather brief stint as head of the CIA.
