Every dime of savings in the new budget settlement comes from taxes on working people or cutting benefits for the poor. Every economist will tell you that taking money from the poor is the worst thing to do for the economy. Can we not even ask the wealthy to give up one little loophole, or oil companies to give up one little taxpayer-financed subsidy? Why does it always have to be food out of the mouths of the poor?
