For perspective on who is to blame-let us remember that Democrats were the slave owners; Democrats controlled the unions that kept blacks out when the black population moved north. Democrats maintained the voting rights in the South and Southern democrats blocked civil rights until 1964
Big deal..Every president …. no….. every elected leader divides the country to some extent..Its impossible to truely measure how much of the current mess is truely Obama’s fault or just spin from the main stream media like Fox and MSNBC.
It seems Boehner finally got fed up with the pre-kindergartners in his faction, might get interesting indeed, and if he can shut them up, we may indeed work toward some “unity”. As speaker, of course he’s got Cantor biting at his heels to take over for the nutcase brigade, sooooo?
I find the “left” and “right” comments amusing. I don’t think you realize just how “right” you are…. by international standards, the Democrats are right wing, and the Republicans are extreme right.America doesn’t even have any real left wing politicians (well not any successful ones)
The “left” were disgusted by Bush’s policies, but they weren’t consumed with hate and want horrible evil things to happen to the man… they just wanted him to go away.
Not 100% new…. every few months I feel compelled to post a comment… usually I just read and laugh.
Thanks for the warm welcome though… I certainly wasn’t expecting to be noticed.
I’m not really conservative or liberal… I find that each scenario needs to be addressed individually… sometimes a left leaning response will get the best results, sometimes a right leaning response will.
Al Franken and Elizabeth Warren, or even Patrick Leahy are all quite “left” from American standards, but they are still slightly right of center by international standards.
Quote:“From my interpretation of his words, he was a appeasement addicted “lefty” "..No, I was just pointing out that the left address conflict through appeasement, the right deal with it with a “my way or the highway” mentality. It is the right’s tactic that results in a “divided country”, not the left’s. But I am not saying that appeasement is better. Both philosophies have major problems when it comes to implementing good policies...Quote:“He said “X” I said “BS” he said “I’m right” I said “Here is why I’m right” to which (much to his credit) he said “You’re right.” "..My turn to be niggling:I said “X”, you said “BS”, I said “let me elaborate”, you said "I see where you are coming from, but…”, I said, “Ok, I can work with that”
You brought us to a mutual understanding by acknowledging there is some validity to my point, (to quote you, “I tend to agree with what you are saying”), and then drawing my attention to the specific points where we disagree. That approach was an important factor for me.
Unless I am mistaken, you weren’t calling BS on my entire original post, you were calling BS on one specific aspect of it, i.e. use of the word hate. You weren’t disagreeing that the Liberals despised Bush’s policies, you were disagreeing that the Liberals hated the man.
So are you agreeing or disagreeing with my comment? You are confusing me. You appear to be attacking the semantics of an argument while ignoring the intended message.. – The left address most conflict through trying to compromise (agree or disagree?)
- The right address most conflict by refusing to compromise (agree or disagree?)- The right’s tactic leads to a “divided country” (agree or disagree?)- The lefts tactic leads to wishy-washy policies that don’t work where nobody wins (agree or disagree?)
quote:“Let’s start off by highlighting the fact that your questioning leads to a conclusion that is the antithesis of your opening position.”.Nope. My opening position still stands, and the questions support the position..Somewhere you are jumping to a false conclusion about the intention of my statements, but I don’t know where the disconnect is, so I don’t know how to clear it up..Cute comment about “A liquid”, I haven’t heard that interpretation of my handle before.

The country already was divided… and has been for a very long time. The left hated Bush Jr. just as much as the right hate Obama.Nothing new here

@ ReasonsVentriloquist
The right “taking to the streets” is due to their inability to cooperate, compromise and accept opinions other than their own.
The left disagreed with what Bush did just as much as the right disagrees with Obama’s actions.
The difference is that the right throw a temper tantrum when things don’t go their way, and the left don’t.

Ok, I can buy that.
