My company hasn’t held an after hours Christmas party for years. It was usually held in late January/early February and attendance was poor. They decided to use that budget to hold a catered dinner during work hours. The remainder of the Christmas party budget was moved to make an even better employee appreciation day.

They said it was because people would be less busy after the holidays, but I suspected it was because the conference room rental rates were cheaper. In any case, the employees were given the choice and decided to cancel the party.
