my son used to get up in the night and open one end of all his gifts ever so carefully and peek at what they were and then re wrap them, so we started putting all his gifts in empty cereal boxes and shoe boxes so he couldn’t tell what they were. Once he was out on his own he did the same thing to gifts that came in the mail……..strange.

Christmas presents. My wife is the curious type. I myself have never wanted to find out what I was getting before I opened them with everyone else. As a kid though, every Christmas Eve I would have a recurring dream that repeated itself over and over again. I would dream that I was awake descending the stairs and walking towards the tree. As soon as I picked up my first present I would wake up. As soon as I went back to sleep the dream would begin again, repeating itself over and over again. Needless to say it would be a stressful night every year.

In hindsight, I guess I did want to know what I was getting.

My kids are pretty good about not peeking. Most presents go in our closet, but this year we have one that would be too much trouble to get upstairs, so we put it in the garage, put painter’s tape over the knob, and told the kids that it was there to remind them to stay out of the garage. We don’t park in there, so it’s not a big deal to keep them out.

Our house alarm system beeps if that door opens, so the kids can’t even sneak in there if we’re home. Beep gives it away.

Just presents…..I swear. No bodies around here. Nope none at all..I alway used to peek using the unwrap method. A skill I still possess, but don’t use anymore.

I’m hiding my lights under a basket. They’re incandescent and I hear they’re being outlawed.
