Obscenity is what you know when you see it… Wait, I think I fumbled that quote. :-)

There are a lot of gender-neutral obscenities: middle-finger, making a fist next to your mouth with your tongue in your cheek, mooning, etc.

What? No “Snowman House of Horror” (from Calvin and Hobbes, of course) reference?

Obscenity involves sex, profanity religion, and scatology elimination. Keep them straight to preserve the language.

I had a theology professor who defined profanity as “theological vocabulary outside of a theological context.” It should work with the other two categories by analogy.
