I get Payne’s intent but I’m puzzled by the choice of symbols. Apartheid was swept away, not so much crushed. Why is it a briefcase in this ‘toon?Meh, it’s well intentioned and I suppose that’s what matters.I’ll give you a C+.
" Now that he has passed, “everyone” is grabbing the spotlight to say what a great man he was."
This seems to be just human nature. Perhaps the idea of “not speaking ill of the dead” has something to do with it. Witness Dale Earnhardt. He was the guy people loved to hate, until the day he died. Suddenly, he became the Patron Saint of NASCAR.
After apartheid was ended, and Mandela came to power, called for reconciliation, not revenge. The hatred aimed at him only shows the smallness of those who attack his history, and humanity, lessens themselves, but in some of those cases, it’s very difficult to be less than they (like Rush) already are.

Yes, and the abolition of slavery was a bad thing, too. Think of the endless trouble that has caused.

Not everyone, people like Rush Limbaugh are badmouthing him. You can learn a lot about someone by who their enemies are.

Mandela was actually very well-respected while he was alive, from the little guy to those at the top.
