Perhaps stress about her remaining Christmas shopping?

Ah Betty I can relate. About 8PM last night wham, chills, aches, low fever. Soaked in a hot bath and crawled off to bed. Christmas colds for everybody is an annual ritual at my house. Mimosa time! Nothing like alcohol and orange juice to make you feel better!

She should at least try to enjoy for a while. Take two aspirins, relax and keep the good spirit for a few hours. Husbands are not always so cheerful.

I always get sick at Christmas time and this year’s no exception. We had to cancel the company we planned because I can’t stop sneezing and coughing and don’t have the energy to cook.

It seems that Betty can’t believe that Bud has done any Christmas shopping. He didn’t go out on the 23rd, when she prompted him. It’s Christmas Eve, biggest shopping day of the year, for Bud and millions of men like him. She can’t understand why he’s sitting around drinking Christmas cheer, when he should be out jostling with all the other men in a last-minute shopping frenzy. -I’m guessing that Betty is in for a big surprise on Christmas morn.

She doesn’t look angry, it’s the shape of the glasses. You can usually tell the mood of a comic strip character by the shape of the eyebrows. Betty’s are upturned in panel two.
