Love the way the “religious right” is attacking the Pope with all their “Christian charity”. Limbaugh’s livid, great.

If memory serves Jesus said give to Caesar what is Caesar’s. So the rich keep their money and dont get into heaven while the poor will be allowed in per the word of Jesus

“…[S]ome people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world. This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts, expresses a crude and naïve trust in the goodness of those wielding economic power and in the sacralized workings of the prevailing economic system. Meanwhile, the excluded are still waiting.”—Pope Francis

The “eye of the needle” comment refers to a narrow city gate which would-be city entrants had to pass through. The gate was so confining that weapons could not be wielded while passing through it, so bad apples would have no chance to work any ill. The gate was called “the eye of the needle,” and a camel was far, far too large to pass through it.

There is practically no institution on the planet with more financial resources than the Catholic Church. And yet, they continue to beg on the streets and apply political and social pressure to get even more. They should be ashamed.

“The gap between the rich and the poor is now at it’s highest point since Oct. 1929,”

Uh, no it’s not, by practically any unit of measure. Saying it’s so doesn’t make it true.

In the full exhortation, the Pope attributes a godless greed for profit at the expense of other people as the particular kind of free market that fails. He also spoke of corrupt governments, so they’re not off the hook either. http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/francesco/apost_exhortations/documents/papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20131124_evangelii-gaudium_en.html

Actually, big government and heavy handed regulation of business work to make the rich get richer and wreck the prospects of the poor.Yes, the gap between rich and poor is growing wider just as government is usurping more and more power and control over society. We do know what happened..

Well, Reasons, good for you; [by] excluding yourself, you were the coolest guy there.

You may have a – well, close-to unique & isolated – example, but even at that, what do you think the buyer did, answer an ad on Craigslist? Was no auction fee paid? Did s/he just stick it in his pocket and walk home with it, or did they pay a few bucks for security, handling, etc.? I doubt they even got them hung up for less a few hundred dollars.

I don’t know who originated the term trickle-down, and it may even have a condescending sound to it. But every single time you pay for a good or service, you prove the theory. Except most of the time, when you obtain anything from the govt, you got the worst of the trickle-down, govt being as inefficient as it is.

Are you kidding? Here’s the quote in context:A ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life ?” 19 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good ? No one is good except God alone. 20 "You know the commandments, ‘DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.’ " 21 And he said, “All these things I have kept from my youth.” 22 When Jesus heard this, He said to him, “One thing you still lack ; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven ; and come, follow Me.” 23 But when he had heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. 24 And Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God ! 25 “For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Luke 18:18-25And it shows up more than once in the Gospels:“It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Mark 10:29. And Jesus is QUITE specific that you need to give up all you have to follow him.“Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed ; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.” Luke 12:15“Sell your possessions and give to charity ; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys.” Luke 12:33“For the love of money is the root of all evil.” —1 Timothy 6:10 I dug these up in about ten minutes. Try reading that book called the Bible.

I personally love the ultra conservative idea that unions are an evil that is breaking business. If that were the case then the large (some say too large) aerospace companies should have gone broke long ago as they are mostly unionized. This unionization has led to American aerospace having the best paid workers in the world, with the best benefits. However, due to this they are also the best such workers there are at the same time (and I was indeed one of them before retiring in the year 2000), and the aerospace corporations are well aware of this.

The results? American aerospace is the only industry left to the US that does not run in the red as far as foreign business goes. Take a look at Boeing for instance, its value to Wall Street has gone up by some 75% this year alone, and there is no other element in the DJIA even close to that increase! What the Unions do is to level the playing field so that not only do the investors in the US Aerospace do very well, but so do the middle class workers (over a million totally) that create that business investment also do well at the same time. They have done this with very few strikes in general, as the leadership of our excellent aerospace industries is intelligent enough (along with the leadership of the unions themselves) to realize that nobody benefits if either side gets too greedy (greed in itself IS an evil). So, they have learned to negotiate and compromise, something that our Congressional Leadership seems incapable of learning. And yes, that goes for both sides of the political spectrum, with the tea party types being the worst of an already bad bunch!

I am far from a literalist, but it looks pretty clear to me. The wealth Jesus refers to, over and over again, is spiritual, not monetary. And the Apostles showed that they knew that, and acted accordingly.

“The money was all appropriated for the top in the hopes that it would trickle down to the needy. Mr. Hoover didn’t know that money trickled up. Give it to the people at the bottom and the people at the top will have it before night, anyhow. But it will at least have passed through the poor fellow’s hands.”-Will Rogers

As usual Will Rogers was right:Appropriating the money for the rich and corporations keeps the money in the hands and bank accounts of the rich.Investing in the middle class can grow the economy on all levels but the money still eventually ends up in the hands and bank accounts of the rich, because wealth doesn’t trickle down, it really flows up.

Whether you call it “reaganomics”, “supply side economics”, “trickle down” or any other name the conservatives and the plutocrats, oligarchs and corporatists have been pushing the trickle down scam for a long time.

Trickle down economics, whether employed by Bush, Reagan, Hoover or anyone else has ALWAYS been a tool for redistributing wealth from the middle and the bottom to the top.
