Hard to be confident when your health insurance is set to cancel and your new plan will cost your family Double next year with a higher deductible. Thanks Uncle Barry!
One thing that will increase sales is that on Dec. 9 an old law forbidding the manufacture of undetectable plastic guns will expire. Should be able to generate lots of sales after that.
The latest show show diminishing support for the gloom and doom of those on the “right” .It’s nearly impossible to find a conservative who isn’t deeply pessimistic about the future. I won’t get into the causes, but the doom & gloom isn’t very attractive.
Home sales (and prices) are up in most of the country, with, admittedly, some “slow spots”, especially where industry has moved out, to China, Viet Nam, or elsewhere. Auto sales are up and so are “major appliances” meaning “consumer confidence” is up. People are stampeding at retail stores today, to buy “stuff” they need like another hole in the head, many buying on credit, requiring “confidence”.
The fraud in PPACA is overblowing the errors (yes, the web site sucks, but even gocomics has been screwing up lately, and often, like “can’t reach the server” etc.) and stating that folks being shifted from one plan, to one that MEETS THE LAW are, “losing” their insurance. A "cheap"plan that covers nothing, is yes, being replaced with one that costs much more, percentage wise, but in actual dollars, a rise from $5 to even $20 a month, is peanuts, when the new policy actually COVERS YOU for illness or injury, and like office visits, preventative screening, etc.! My policy, after over a decade of 13% annual increases, is going up again, but only 3% this time. That IS a “savings” relative to the mandates of the ACA.
But back to the toon kids. The fact is that retailers like target and Walmart have already warned their investors that sales will be down and consumer confidence is low. Facts.Now……Why?1. People are still unemployed, stopped bothering to look or even more common, Underemployed and aren’t seeing any reason to think that will change.2. Obama hasn’t and isn’t doing crap about that.3. SEE MY FIRST POST!4. Payroll taxes already went up and state income taxes have also risen and people correctly predict Barry isn’t done yet. Smaller paychecks are coming.
He won’t read it (too many words) so there’s no fear. I could say “Don’t get back to us until you’ve read it.” But he evidently doesn’t realize that a number of us use name that are allusions. Baslim is alluding to the Heinlein novel, I’m alluding to Jesse Lonecat Fuller, who wrote The San Francisco Bay Blues, and of course DrCanuck is alluding to the famous superhero comic of the 1930s, The Amazing Dr Canuck — but I bet everyone knew that.
I prefer the originals from the 1930s, written and drawn by Kilgore Trout, when Doc Canuck was using his agronomic super powers to battle the enormous monsters Dusty Bowl and Didi Pression. Everyone remembers his sidekick dog Swiffer, the Newfoundland. And of course his faithful friends, the twins Al and Bertha, oddly identical though of different sexes. (But Shakespeare makes the same mistake in Twelfth Night.) These issues are very rare, however, and not everyone has seen them. The later versions from the 1970s changed his name from Doc Canuck to Captain Canuck, probably to appeal to the US audience.
I’m not sure what you’re referring to, but Obama is not my Messiah, and I have a lot of criticisms of him. Not the same as yours, probably, but criticisms nonetheless.
On “consumption”: first reports, “Black Friday sale down from last year”, next part of report, counting the Thanksgiving day sales, sales up 3% over last year! Consumer confidence isn’t down. (Nor is the con game run by the RNC)

I thought that conservatives believe that the government can’t create jobs. If so, how can they blame Obama for not creating jobs?

Check out Robert Heinlein’s Citizen of the Galaxy. A wonderful book. Then get back to us.

Well, yes, but he had a doctorate in agronomy, which explains his superpowers.

What’s wrong with my avatar? I think it expresses my personality precisely.
lonecat over 10 years ago
But seriously, how does one make an avatar? I have trouble with anything techie. I make my students do all the techie stuff.
