Yet a lot of people modify it just the same. It’s enough (or should be) to say that someone or something is unique, period, with no qualifications necessary. But if you point that out, you’re bound to get the usual arguments about how language changes, etc. While that’s true, it seems to me that people more often resort to that argument to rationalize their own lingual and literary laziness.
