In “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”, the Mariner shot the albatross that was later hung around his neck.Obama didn’t shoot ACA, the Republicans did. And everyone is still blaming the President for all the problems.Get over yourselves.

I read some of these posts and the righty talking points with amazement. Obama is trying to bring America up to the standards of health care as the rest of the world so 44,000 do not needlessly die every year of treatable conditions and 100,000 declare medical bankruptcy and he is treated like a pariah. I’m trying to decide – is it ignorance, stupidity, partisanship, or dishonesty?

“……Bush got low numbers after being hammered day in and day out for years by the media. Obama, with the protection of the media, did this on his own…..”.Bush with his misguided, stupid invasions that resulted in hundreds of thousands killed and maimed deserved to be hammered in the media. If anything, he literally got away with murder. Obama is trying to save lives and minimize suffering, and despite incredible partisan resistance is making progress. Comparing the presidencies of Bush and Obama is ridiculous, not even close.

“Single payer” is one of the most deceiving metaphors used by lefties like you who don’t want to say “Government run, socialized healthcare”. Why don’t you just say what you mean?Oh that’s because you know most Americans don’t want the government running our healthcare, deciding which doctors we can see and when we are allowed to see him.

Btw I would prefer a true “single payer system” much like care for your car or your house.I’m a big boy and can decide for myself what treatments I need, which doctor to use and how to shop around for the best value.Or do you want us to pay for YOUR car maintenance and home improvements too?

Despite the concerted efforts of Republicans in Congress, and state Governors to shoot down “Obamacare”, it will be up and functioning, despite their efforts, long before the F-35, at much lower cost! It’s far from a perfect law, as Republicans guaranteed with their demands, but for those finally getting health insurance, which will LOWER medical costs overall, it’s still a big step forward.

More specifically to the ‘toon. Nobody on the “right” seems to note the war albatross that was hung from “W”’s neck, and saw his approval polling far lower than Obama’s when he left office. I don’t approve of all of Obama’s actions (which I’ve stated repeatedly) but still think he’s done about as well as possible given the idiocy and power of the MEDIA controlled by the right, and the never ending attacks on EVERYTHING he tries to do!

Frankly, Julius Ceasar got more “respect” from his Senate opposition. And despite following the “unitary Executive” folks of the ’W" administration, Obama HAS been far more open, and willing to TRY to work with the opposition than Bush/Cheney ever did.

“…..Was it this same way for the German ruler (Bismark) a century and a half ago ?…”.Probably not. Otto von Bismarck, the “Iron Chancellor” unified a number of separate Germanic states into a single German Reich, not by abstractions such as democracy and the rule of law, but by iron and blood. Interestingly, he was not a socialist, he was a crotchety, tax averse, right wing aristocrat, who had this quaint notion that the German military would be stronger and the factories more productive with universal health care. I suspect he was largely unopposed.

“…..Or for the Canadians , 50 years ago. ?. .”.Yes, Tommy Douglas, father of Canadian Medicare and premier of Saskatchewan faced a big battle to implement medicare in the 1950’s for Saskatchewan. Tommy did not think it right that citizens of his province should be dying because they could not afford treatment, so he introduced a bill to provide universal single payer health care. He was resisted by the Canadian doctors, bolstered by, guess who, the American Medical Association, who feared “socialized medicine.” Representatives from the AMA poured across the border to help their Canadian counterpart defeat this radical idea put forward by this tiny former small town Baptist minister, turned politician. What they didn’t count on was that the little Scotsman was a fighter, and he fought his opponents to a standstill. With strong support from the Saskatchewan people, the doctors caved and the representatives from the AMA went back home like whipped puppies. In 1966 the Federal government copied the plan for all of Canada – unopposed. In 2004 Tommy Douglas was voted the people’s choice for “The Greatest Canadian.”.Many lessons from this bit of history. Here’s one: Social change, progress, and justice needs a champion of outstanding vision, compassion, toughness, and tenacity. There will be no shortage of nay Sayers who will resist change for any number of reasons – the path of least resistance, ignorance, innate negativity, vested interest, gullibility. Tommy Douglas was one such visionary and champion for social justice. Only history will prove if Obama has the right stuff. I think he does, and I think he will prevail. But it will be a tough fight with setbacks.

“….still on that 44,000 lie?….”.A lie only if you think a Harvard Medical School study (and several others) is a lie and you are an ignoramus. The rest of your comments leads me to believe the latter.

Ryan had no proposal for healthcare reform. Post it here, if somehow I missed it. There is also zero support for your claim that the ACA is tripling in cost. Here’s the CBO response to the House GOP on the effect of repealing Obamacare:“Deficits would be increased under H.R. 6079 (the repeal Bill) because the net savings from eliminating the insurance coverage provisions would be more than offset by the combination of other spending increases and revenue reductions. In total, CBO and JCT estimate that H.R. 6079 would reduce direct spending by $890 billion and reduce revenues by $1 trillion over the 2013–2022 period, thus adding $109 billion to federal budget deficits over that period” The ‘Ryan Plan’ did take the Medicare cuts included in Obamacare, but left out the parts that would control costs. Nothing dishonest about saying you’ll protect Medicare while proposing that! /sarcasm

Bush got low numbers after being hammered day in and day out for years by the media. Obama, with the protection of the media, did this on his own.Bush was wrong about Saddam’s WMDs, wrong about the cost of invading & occupying Iraq, wrong about the cost in lives. His emphasis on an ‘ownership society’ helped push people into mortgages that fueled the housing bubble. GW Bush has done himself a huge favor by staying away from politics. Any attempt to step into the limelight would be an immediate reminder of his failed policies. As ex-Presidents go, Bush is still not doing so hot:

I know his ratings are low. The media pummeled him every day for 8 years but give aid to Obama.Yes, the press has been sayng nothing but good things going about the ACA rollout, thanks to the fact that the administration is only allowing embedded reporters to tell the story. /sarcasmIf you want to believe in the fantasy that Bush was a good President & only got a bad rap from the media, go right ahead.

But NOWHERE and I mean NOWHERE do you see the personal insults that Bush got..That’s hilarious. Bush certainly received personal attacks, but not more so than Clinton or Obama. The venom increased after he got the US into a couple of fruitless occupations. Disagreements with policy isn’t a personal insult. Calling Bush a warmonger isn’t the same as the silly chimp jokes.Rather than try to argue that Bush’s treatment wasn’t extraordinary, I’ll leave you with these nuggets from the election of 1800:“John Adams is a blind, bald crippled toothless man, who secretly wants to start a war with France.”“John Adams is a hideous hermaphroditical character with neither the force and firmness of a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman.”“Jefferson is the son of a half-breed Indian squaw raised on hoe-cakes. Are you prepared to see your dwellings in flames? Female chastity violated? Children writhing on the pike?”If Jefferson becomes President, “Murder, robbery, rape, adultery and incest will be openly taught and practiced, the air will be rent with the cries of the distressed, the soil will be soaked with blood and the nation black with crimes.”

You offer no proof, just a biased opinion. You never offered anything to back up your opinion. You saying Bush was attacked daily, while Obama is not, is your typical one sided, biased attitude. In my opinion!I suppose you think this stuff is all true:
