Trans-fats comes from using hydrogenated oils. Since those oils are used to extend shelf life, fast food establishments such as Dunkin Donuts and Krispy Kreme have little reason to use it. Boxed donuts purchased from the grocery store would be far more likely to contain trans-fats.
Trans fats do not improve flavor. They are cheap and dangerous. It’s not really a big deal, especially since the two biggest doughnut makers around quit using them ages ago. Rand Paul should have known better, but he’d rather vent his spleen, I guess. Certainly not his brain!
Cake frosting is a common food with trans fats. I just checked mine, and they are in there. Trans fats are generally used to keep something like a frosting from falling apart. It helps keep things gelled together.
Never mind, those of you who are sure losing hydrogenated fats are going to spoil your diet. Food processors now have something called ‘superesterified’ fats, which they don’t have to define or defend. They say they are great, and that ought to be enough for us. Apparently it’s really, really cheap, though.
I’ll just stick to butter and lard. At least those aren’t petroleum products. I deep fry in peanut oil – there are enough food oils available that we really don’t need to be ingesting petroleum products. To each his own, though.
The difference is is the public sector the screw ups wither and die a natural death or evolve into something that works. In the Government sector the screw ups are re-elected to spawn more screw ups which legislate more screw ups to “fix” the screw ups that they created in the first place! Liberals!
What’s worse is what this will do to carnival midway food. No more deep fried twinkies or sticks of margrine I suppose! What’s the world coming to that you can’t have a deep fried Snickers bar with extra grease?!
My dad was a baker, never used “trans-fats”, just “natural products” back in those days, he wouldn’t even buy us margarine at home, other than my brother wanted to play with it back in the day that you had to add your own food coloring and mix it up! “Old” is relative, and hmm, also relative to what you EAT!
